2013 Contrade di Taurasi (Cantine Lonardo) Taurasi - Italy, Campania, Taurasi DOCG (10/6/2020)
Decanted 6 hrs. My first thought after a glass of this was the comparison to the 2015 Mastroberardino ‘normale’ which I had a couple of weeks ago – in terms of vibrancy, typicity, freshness and overall enjoyment…it wasn’t even close, the 13 Lonardo in a landslide. The marriage of dark blackberry fruit, cloves and other spices (and I get this is probably the power of suggestion) against a frame of volcanic stuff such as pumice and ash is irresistible to me. Fantastic acidity isn’t overplayed but be sure to pair accordingly as it, along with some youthful tannins can pack a solid, but well focused punch. Nothing but upside here. (93 pts.)
