What a difference – 2017 and 2018 Guillemot Bourgogne

Not long ago I complained here about the 2017 Bourgogne from Guillemot, a producer I like. The 2017 was very light in color, had little to offer in the nose and was light and acidic in the mouth with almost no aftertaste. What a contrast to the 2018. The color of the latter is much deeper and the nose is filled with dark fruits and spices. At the palate the wine is balanced, medium bodied and impressive for a Bourgogne. The finish is very satisfying. This Bourgogne will not make old bones but it is simply delicious. Some may miss more acid. But the 2018 is not overripe. It is a mouthful of fine Burgundy providing lots of pleasure and certainly on the same level as a good village wine. If I am forced to give numbers I would say the 2017 is 80 points and the 2018 90.

BTW: The 2018 tasted like many 09 did at the same age.
