TN: 2014 Stellina Zinfandel Old Vine

  • 2014 Stellina Zinfandel Old Vine - USA, California, Central Valley, Lodi (9/17/2020)
Part of my expansion into the old school Lodi Zin’s. On pour, I can immediately tell it’s pretty heavily bricking. And sure enough, it’s got those raisin notes, no fresh fruit and comes across almost like an Amarone but without the sweet end. A surprising acidity finishes it off - I didn’t see that coming. Wine is made by the Colarossi family who also are behind the Lodi Native brand, which is a very nice modern take on Lodi Zin. This wine is slightly past it’s prime, and if you have any, drink them now, but was still enjoyable. (88 pts.)

From your notes it sounds like it spent a Summer in the trunk of a car. Bricking at 6 yrs? I’d source another.

Could be. Bit unusual, yes. I’ll see what the next bottle does.

You were right, Brian. Three out of three were marsala. They’re sending me 6 new bottles from another vintage.
