Kyle, we are reaching out to people with multiple orders to consolidate shipping. Working on a way to make this more seamless in the future.
Great, thanks Scott!

David, to answer your question on blending and fruit costs, we generally pay the same for all fruit from a vineyard. There are differences based on varietal but within a varietal it's generally the same. In some cases we separate young vines from mature plants. There is of course an economic reality to blending but that must be secondary to crafting a wine that fits our vision, our ideal. In other words, blending all of To Kalon into Bard would not be sustainable...but blending in a little creates a better wine that hopefully over-delivers on value and builds enthusiasm with consumers around the world.

Scott, thanks for that response. I’m sure it adds even more complexity to the blending process to not just make the best wine but make one that makes economic sense for the winery. Just makes it all that more impressive what you all are able to do.

yeesh, in for 6 bard, 1 falstaff, 2 tempest, 1 moonracer. moonracer is a new one for me and its outsize price had me going back and forth for a while.

Wish list granted (one Falstaff) this morning. Figured I'd have a better chance requesting a single versus three or more.

Wish granting is ongoing this morning. We did the very best we could to spread the few bottles of Falstaff and Absurd around as fairly and equitably as possible. For a later date we can debate how to prioritize requests - there are pros and cons to every approach. We hit a snag with a few orders regarding shipping method that was inadvertently changed. We are reaching out to those folks now. We were thankfully able to fulfill most requests for Bard, Tempest and Moonracer. Appreciate all the support and dialogue from this forum!

Scott,

First off, congrats on what seems like a very successful Fall offering!

I am curious as to your thoughts of the various Absurd vintages.
K currently have 2012, 13, 14, and 15 and what to get your thoughts on which drinking windows on these. I know, very broad question, and depending on tastes, etc., but just wanted to see if you have any general thoughts.
BTW: I bought, what I think was your first Absurd vintage (2005), which I drank a while ago.

Lastly, echoing others and really appreciate your involvement in this board. Makes a big difference for info and connecting, both of which are very important to me.

Tom

Tom, I'll preface my comments on drinking windows by saying this is just my palate and admittedly we don't have enough years under our belt to really see how these wines evolve over decades. The 05 vintage you mentioned was quite a different wine back then and in my experience its best years are behind it. Of the vintages you mention, I would probably drink 2012 and 2015 before 2013 and 14. I think 12 is probably the most approachable and evolved right now. I think it still has some years to go but I don't see it being built to last decades in the same way as 2013. 2013 is a monster and I love how dense and fresh this wine still is - you could drink it now but I think you would be missing the peak. The 2014 is beautiful, more acidity in that vintage. It might not show the same hedonistic fruit as 12 or 13 but instead it reveals a more intellectual side. 15 is showing the flashiness that goes along with a warmer, solar vintage. The posture of 15 seems more front-forward right now. You didn't mention the 16 but I also think that's another epic vintage and that wine will (hopefully) age for decades. I think 17 should lay down for awhile, there's plenty of structure and acidity in that wine for it to age awhile. One of these days we will publish some notes from a vertical tasting of The Absurd that Benoit and I did recently.

Very useful info! Thanks Scott.

Will look for an opportunity to open the 2012 (I have two bottles, but only one of each of the others).

I really look forward to reading about the vertical tasting of the Absurd (and hope you do a vertical of Dr. Crane some day).

I saw my waitlist email and got SUPER excited ... slightly came back to earth when I saw I was granted 6 additional Bard (now 12 total) and 1 additional Moonracer (now 3 total) but struck out on Falstaff. I'd requested 2 additional Falstaff (1 ordered previously) but also understand some got 0 initially, and I'm glad they were (evidently?) prioritized to get some.

Apart from the Falstaff were you granted everything else you wish listed? That’s what happened to me.

I ended up with 18 Bard, 4 Bard mags, 4 Tempest, 2 Tempest Mags, 3 Moonracer. Missed out on the Falstaffs but very happy with what I secured.

I received a very pleasant email that I didn't get my Falstaff wishlist request, however, last year I received a 2016 Absurd that I requested through wishlist. All works out.

I only went with 3 Bards and no wishlist, but needed to keep my order to a minimum, unfortunately. Went really deep with Carter/Myriad/Quivet/Becklyn, and with Greer, M. Etain, and a few others coming up, it'll be a rough month on the card. With that said, 2018 is said to be a great vintage, so I'm looking forward to it! Hopefully I'll be able to be able to pick up some Realm Dr. Crane and To Kalon in the next offer (fingers crossed)! Glad to see all the Realm love on this thread.

Well… I was wishlist only since I have not bought for a couple of years. So I was pleased to get 9 Bard and 6 Tempest. Not pleased that they are charging $200 to ship 15 bottles of wine, but beggars can't be choosers. Cayuse and SQN are almost as bad. Nothing to do but pay up.

Mark, welcome back and thanks for your support. Shipping is one of my big focus areas in the months ahead. I know it's expensive and everyone (including me) has stories of how it can go wrong. When we get through fall release cleanup and harvest, I was thinking I would start a separate thread here on shipping to gather ideas, feedback, etc. For now, just know that I hear you on the shipping costs.
