TN: 1964 Cavallotto Barolo Riserva (Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo)

  • 1964 Cavallotto Barolo Riserva - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo (8/16/2020)
A wonderful and expansive nose of Indian spice, dried fruits and balsamic. It is muscular, powerful and ethereal and cuts through pork belly like a vinous knife. Every sip unlocks something special and it has such great authority whilst titillating with all sorts of sensual aromas and flavours.

Thanks, Jeremy…if only my parents had bought a couple of cases for my birth year! [cheers.gif]

Nice note, Jeremy. Sounds really fantastic.

Thanks for the fine note Jeremy. That can be a terrific wine. There are other who Cavallotto more experience that I with this these wines, but I have a hard time thinking of a producer with whom I have had better luck drinking wines from that era. Maybe the Cappellano non-Troglia bottlings have been more consistent, but I am picking nits. If you have not tried them, the ’ 61 and '67 to lesser degree are solid. For me '64 is the best vintage of that decade. Thanks for sharing!
