Newbie and first post here. Bought 1.5 case of The Ringer, and they came in today. Opened one bottle and decanted over 4 hours. It was ready after 30min. Drank beautifully. Enjoyed it a lot more than Editorial 2018 and Yesterday (Oakville). Anyone else got and tried their Ringer?

I tried the Yesterday cab last night and can say it’s the real deal. Definitely not a $500 but I think could legitimately compete with wines at the $75+ price point, so definitively a good value.

The oak was pretty dominant but seemed high quality. The wine I’ve had recently that it most reminded me of was a Tor Tierra Roja, which had a very similar oak profile.

So far from the Wine Access private labels I’ve had the Yesterday and the 2018 Editorial and both have been great and excellent values.

FYi AMEX has a new offer, $20 off $200 which you can use 3x. Not as good as the $50/150 deal but hey it's an additional 10% off.

Any guesses on the source for 2019 Appliqué?

Sounds like they bought it bottled: "We bought this Chardonnay as a shiner (a bottle sans label) and slapped the Appliqué name on"

Source is a "Sonoma County winery that has (very recently) racked up 95 points from Wine Enthusiast, 93 points from Antonio Galloni of Vinous, and a 98-point double-gold-medal performance at one of Sonoma County’s top competitions."

Of the two vineyards: "One produces wines that Vinous’s Antonio Galloni have called “Meursault-like,” from where the warm sun cuts through the rolling morning fog and tempers cool San Pablo Bay breezes, packing grapes with exotic fruit concentration. The other, a rocky and well-draining site a stone’s throw from the iconic Sangiacomo Vineyard, is a perennial favorite of Kosta Browne."

It sounds like the 2019 is from the same source as the 2018, and they give a SRP of $55. "Hailing from the same two outstanding Sonoma Coast sites as the last vintage—one of which Kistler made world-famous—this Chardonnay would be a bargain at the source winery’s $55 SRP."

edit: could it be Three Sticks winery? They've got multiple chardonnays for $55, with 98-point double-gold medals, a 95 from WE, and Kistler makes a chardonnay from Durrell vineyard. All of the chardonnays they list on their website are from single vineyards—but the Durrell Vineyard Chardonnay is from two "blocks," so perhaps this counts? https://www.threestickswines.com/wines/ ... hardonnay/

Thanks to all those who have taken the plunge tasting the different Yesterday Cabernet Sauvignons.

I received my cases (one Napa label and one Howell Mountain label) and socked them away for some aging. Happy to share tasting notes down the road especially regarding any differences.

When was the Howelll yesterday released? Bought the Napa but don't recall seeing or getting an email on Howell or did some people just get them as a mistake?

They were received as a mistake by folks ordering a second order of the Oakville (aka Napa) wine. The Howell Mountain will be released "around Thanksgiving" apparently.

I'm somewhat new to WineAccess (no, I do not need a referral code, lol) and I was wondering if there was a way to filter private label wines only on the site.

Is the consensus among berserkers that Wine Access private label wines are worth checking out?

Here's the link to the offer: https://www.wineaccess.com/catalog/2018 ... fdc418723/

I'll edit my post with Will J.'s referral link if he chooses to post one.

Something interesting from the description:
By stepping in when we did and keeping the vineyard—and the winemaker described as “Napa’s top gun” in Wine Spectator—out of the press, we were able to shave a huge margin off the price per bottle.
"Napa's Top Gun" is Thomas Rivers Brown from the October 2018 edition.

They truly have the best satisfaction guarantee- it’s like they’re trying to be the Nordstrom of the wine world; I’ve had several wines show up hot or not taste good and they’ve given me credits on every single one...spent a good amount of $$$ but to know that if you really hate something you’re covered it’s amazing.

Anyone else have these same thoughts/feelings?

Go to the WineAccess website, scroll all the way to the bottom, on the bottom toolbar there is a link that says Refer a Friend. Click that and one option is to copy a URL.

I think you are absolutely correct. Yesterday Howell is Dana Estates Hersey Vineyard. So where is Yesterday oakville originally from? Maybe the answer is somewhere within wineaccess' website.

If the winemaker referred to in the offer is in fact Thomas Rivers Brown, then the winery in question could be Outpost or Black Sears, who are both well-known clients of his. But more likely it is another producer that is just sourcing from one of these Howell Mountain sites.

I don't think Dana Estates is correct, the winemaker is Chris Cooney.

it mentions a project that fell through.. outpost and black sears arent 1800.. they're at 2200.. its possible outpost true vineyard is 1800, its a bit below their winery, but I don't think that far.. and neither are 35 acres. It was probably a project that didn't exist that was purchasing from hershey or somewhere similar.. I also noticed one of the Berrnger estates is 35 acres at 1800 ft.

No, you can't.

It's OK. I just didn't want some parasites to swoop in and start spamming their referral links if you had one you wanted to use. No worries.

I searched “bowl shaped vineyard Howell Mountain” on google and Hershey Vineyard (VASO cellars by DANA winery) was the first link. The WineAccess description says it’s a single vineyard designate as well.

Looks like you guys nailed it.

Lucky me for getting these as a mixup for the Oakville/Napa version!

So I really love the schedule-your-delivery feature on WA's website. It would be even better if they paid attention to it.

No big deal here, but they shipped a couple of bottles of good champagne that were supposed to be delivered next Friday yesterday, from NY. They'll be here on Monday, which means they will spend the weekend in a fedex warehouse someplace. If they had been shipped at any point up to Wednesday they would have avoided that stop-over

Temps are fine outside and I am less anal about these things as I get older. But still.

I did try the Howell Yesterday. I didn’t think it was anything special and would not have been happy if I had paid $40 a bottle. Others may obviously disagree with my take.

The bottle variation in the Oakville is absolutely insane, so there is a chance I just got a poor bottle of the Howell. I’ve had four of the Oakville so far, here are my impressions:

1st bottle: amazing, one of my wines of the year. 98/100
2nd bottle: very average $20-40 wine. 87/100
3rd bottle: not as good as bottle one, but really good. 93/100
4th bottle: easily the worst of the four. Wouldn’t buy again. 83/100

I had a ton of bottle variation with the 2018 Editorial as well. Hard to justify buying more of these private label offerings from Wine Access if you aren't sure what you are paying for.

I also had 4 Oakville. I was impressed by 2 of them. The other 2, I think they are $30 kind of wine so obviously not worth the $35-40 they charged.
This is why it's funny to see so many people cellaring these wines. A few years down the road, they will open, and find a bunch of bottle variation and all over the place. These are daily drinkers, not Harlan. neener

Can you open another Howell and see if there is bottle variation there as well?

I know little about it, but it seems really odd that bottles could show this much variation, especially at such a young age? I could see how over prolonged periods if bottles had different exposure to light and/or heat, but what could explain it at this stage? I would think they almost have to start off identical on initial bottling (not a chemistry major but hard to see how the starting juice would be different if taken from the same source).

Totally depends on how the wine was bottled. Typically you would blend all of the source wine in one big tank and then bottle from there, but there's no guarantee that these were bottled in this way. I could see some corner-cutting being taken for some of these private label wines.

What do you have to lose from ordering anything on wine access? If you don’t like it they will give you credit to buy something you do like- it’s their satisfaction guarantee. Seems as though advertising it as such doesn’t really entice people to take it seriously?

With these private label wines, you don't know where the grapes were grown, or by whom, where the wine was made, or by whom, or if each bottle of wine was grown from the same lot of grapes and made in the same place; if there was ever a circumstance in which bottle variation is to be expected, this should be it.

Has anyone successfully returned/swapped wines? I bought 4 bottles of the NV Laherte Freres BdB Brut Nature a few months ago and popped one recently. It was very disappointing and nothing like the CT notes others have used to describe the wine.

I emailed them to see if they'd swap out the other 3 (same disgorgement date), so we'll see what happens.

I’ve been dissatisfied with several wines and every single one they have had me keep and given me store credit to buy something else. They have a 100% satisfaction guarantee and they advertise it everywhere. There’s also been a few shipping mishaps and they’ve sent out replacements promptly with no questions asked.

Great to know, we'll see how it works out!
