Anyone have thoughts on the Bel Air bordeaux? I have a harder time discerning good QPR for non-US wines, but I'm looking for some non-US stuff to diversify a bit from all the De Negoce / WA private label wines.
Haven't had that, just the Loirac (ok but very 4-square) and the Parenchere (good, merlot that's med to full bodied w chewy tannin).

2014 Château Sociando-Mallet caught my attention. I know there are fans on this board and price seems ok. Not sure I have the capacity for more bottles that require significant time though, would these be worth it if drinking over the next ~ 5 years?

My 2018 Editorials were supposed to ship on Wednesday and land Friday, which was supposed to be perfect timing to avoid the temp spike over the weekend. However, WA didn't ship until yesterday and now it looks like they'll sit in their cardboard shippers baking in the back of a truck over the weekend. [cry.gif]

Guess we'll see what WA says.

Same with my order (shipped one day late, Thursday), although it says that it will be delivered on Saturday. We'll see if it happens or not. But I trust WA to make it right.

Weird that it's been happening recently. Until this week there have been no snafus for me. But two orders this week were off by a day as I mentioned upthread.

They'll hook you up I'm sure.

It might have to do with covid causing a lot of delays. There are so many packages being shipped out that delivery services cant catch up with the demand. I have received packages late from many companies.
Now, I try to give myself a day of buffer for deliveries.

Same! This is my 5th or 6th order with them and all before this have been great. However, this one isn't on the carrier. WA shipped it a day after it was supposed to go out. Can't blame UPS on this one.

Opened a 2018 Editorial last night. Didn't give it any air and just pop - saved 3/4 for tonight.

It's a well made wine, with tons of structure that for my palate needs 5-10 years to unwind. Little more oak showing than I personally like but it's something that I'm sure will integrate with some age. Remind me a little bit of Shafer's 1.5 bottle, though Editorial has more briary mtn type fruit than just pure glossiness. If you like the 1.5 especially young, this is right up your alley.

I'll decant what's left later and update my impression.

Snagged two more bottles of krug 168 yesterday. Wonder how much stock they have as it’s been sporadic.

After referral credits and a coupon, less than $60 a bottle, lol. I think it’s time for a new equity round so they can pump some more coupons!

Changing my tune after decanting and pouring another glass tonight. All that barrel spice on the nose that was prevalent yesterday pop n pour is gone, you still get the oak a bit on the palate but it's not as overwhelming. Really nice juicy cab still with that nice briary (don't want to say herbaceous b/c there's nothing green here) fruit signature.

In case anyone is interested it looks like the Radio Silence cab is back in stock. I’m 99% sure this is mostly fruit from Realm’s estate vineyard in Stags Leap. I missed this when it was first offered but figured it was worth checking out (after discounts paid around $25 per bottle).

Thanks for the heads up, but showing SOLD OUT when I go to the link. I'm in California. Perhaps Wine Access shows availability regionally??

Add the 2016 Editorial to the meh list. No indication that it was a bad bottle as cork seemed sound and it was delivered in coolish temps. Pruney and smelling/tasting a bit like port. Raisins for days.

Anyone else try one? I know the deal vs the 2018 (diff vineyard entirely) but the quality just seemed to lack vs 2018.

I like the 2018. Never bought the 2016 so I don't know what it is like. From CT, looks like people who tried both hated the 2016.

Has anyone experienced slow response time from customer service recently? My Teeter-Totter cabs arrived Monday and 2 of the bottles had cap damage. I’ll defer to others if this is possible in shipping, but I don’t see how that could happen.

Delightful and Strange?

I just saw this one....

"That was the case with this towering 2018 release. Some of its Cabernet grapes come from an Atlas Peak estate that, if you drink much Napa red, you’ve certainly heard of and perhaps ordered on a splurge night out for $265. Others come from a St. Helena site known for its $200+ reds. But because 2018 was a bumper crop and the winemaker had gotten wind of our streak of sales with the brand, we got the best deal yet on high-quality grapes that are perfect for an every-night, any-occasion wine.
With that rich base intact, we blended in some of the darkest, most powerful wines we could lay hands on, making for a heady mix of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. It’s a true A-team of source sites, everything from the most famous grower in Carneros to one of the highest-scoring sites in St. Helena. "

Sounds like they are making the wine with grapes sourced from different places? (instead of getting juice from the wineries)
Fetzner!!!!

Ive got some of the ‘16 D&S, its pretty good; ive got 4 left i believe (tried one maybe 4 months ago). It sounds like different source each year, so probably no correlation. Think I paid $20/btl for the ‘16.

Opened the 2018 Editorial the other night. It's pleasant, but if you're the kind that is not into heavy-handed winemaking then it might not be for you. Some will like it because it pushes all the sliders to the max.

Finally got a response to my message on IG to that Somm lady. She suggested they will have more of a Yesterday-ish wine (different blend, but same source grapes) "around Thanksgiving."
She works for wineaccess?
While I don't think she is an employee, she hosts a podcast that is affiliated with (or sponsored by) Wine Access.
Sort of remarkable that people here are giving credence to her views under those circumstances. To the best of my recollection, Gary V liked all the wines he sold too. Oddly enough, the folks on QVC think the stuff they hawk is swell too

She has only recc'd 3 of their private label wines and all have been universally praised post tasting. When that ends, so will us caring what she thinks.

Hey, everybody's got their own approach. If it works for you and the wines have been good, so much the better. I don't really understand the entire mystery wine bit. Didn't for garagiste and don't for these offers, but it seems like folks in this thread are happy and thats all that matters.

Quite the contrary on Gary V, I think part of his appeal was he wasn’t scared of trashing the wines he sold in his store. He did it frequently, which I think lent him credibility, although it did make me wonder why he didn’t fire his wine buyers that kept bringing in junk.

I think you can dislike a wine and still carry it in your store because it has a broad appeal and you have customers that enjoy it and want to purchase it.

The Brugnon Champagne is delicious.
Lean and super dry.
I like it, too - but I try to use offers or discounts to get it closer to $25 a bottle. Not that $10 is a big deal but I always think 'Ok $35, I could get Aubry or for $5 more a Taittinger NV.'

Definitely a nice aperitif!

Has anyone experienced slow response time from customer service recently? My Teeter-Totter cabs arrived Monday and 2 of the bottles had cap damage. I’ll defer to others if this is possible in shipping, but I don’t see how that could happen.

Sent an email Monday, have not heard back.
Still no reply from customer service...
Just putting this to bed, a phone took care of everything and two new bottles are en route next week.

Gary V did definitely shit on expensive wines that his store sold all the time. Was awesome.

My last name is TURK so this is awesome, thanks for the heads up. In for 6 TURKS. Will give 3 to my dad and break out other 3 for fun with guests.

Vivino has had a few of these Turk wines over the last 1-2 years, curious to hear how they are. More generally, to Nick's post, they always have these random labels that they advertise as huge discounts and usually have some "famous" winemaker and/or soil attached to them, but with almost no info online. I always pass bc I feel you can get better deals with more known quantities (and that was before De Negoce and WA private labels blew up). I think some of them are even Vivino private / owned labels? Anyways, look forward to hearing about the Turk!
