TN: 2018 Matthiasson Chardonnay Linda Vista Vineyard (USA, California, Napa Valley)

  • 2018 Matthiasson Chardonnay Linda Vista Vineyard - USA, California, Napa Valley (8/1/2020)
Stellar bottle of Chardonnay from Matthiasson, and for a very reasonable price ($30). Mid-weight, full of citrus and green apple tones, and just the barest hint of spice on the finish. It’s refreshing and easy to drink, with enough depth of flavor that it doesn’t feel simple. Definitely appreciate the freshness on another in an interminable string of hot summer nights.

Good to hear you liked this, David,

I was not very impressed with their Mara chardonnay (2013) nor the earthquake cuvee. Their Napa white generally has been a winner for me, but I began to think that there single variety bottlings just were not up to snuff.

Thanks for the note David. I have a couple of these as well, but have not opened any. What are your thoughts on drinking window? Think they can lay down for a bit?

We disagree. I love their Cabernet program, including the Earthquake wine. The Napa White is the best CA White Blend IMO, surpassing Arnot-Roberts, Bedrock, even my other fave, Massican. Granted my favorite wine they make is the Matthiasson Red, but their Red Hen Vineyard Merlot is also stunning.

A couple of year perhaps. The freshness is really captivating, so I might open one if I were you.

Just had the 16 refosco and 16 Mara chard tonight and I think I enjoyed the Linda vista more. Both wines tonight were fun with pizza though. Refosco was sour plums and cranberry with a little herbal note that paired well with sausage pizza. The Mara Chardonnay had a light apple and vanilla note with good acidity. We paired that with a peach and corn pizza and then a peach cobbler(recent non appetite recipe) Matthiasson is fun for dinner parties as they always compliment the food so well.

Yum.

FWIW, I always prefer Linda Vista to the Mara Chard.

Firstbottle has this for $24.95 with free shipping on 6 bottles. Heck of a deal.

Buek, we opened the Quake Cuvee last night and I had one small pour of it and then, poof, my family had crushed the bottle. What a cool value that was for $48 way back when. Still doing the Matthiasson Cabs.

I smartly married a woman who does not drink red wine.
