TN: 2004 Scubla Verduzzo Friulano Friuli Cràtis

Wife and I had this as a dessert wine at a restaurant recently. Very pleasant surprise. It’s made with a local northern Italian white grape, but in the appasimento style which really concentrated the flavor (something we did not know when we tasted it). While listed as a white wine it looked like a light red in the bottle and a dark rose in the glass. It’s flavor profile is more like a port.

Nose of creme brulee, toasted nuts, hint of an earthy baking spice.

Flavor profile matched the nose with a port-like silkiness. Balanced acidity and residual sugar with a nice lingering finish that held its flavor.

Paired well with both flan/custard and a chocolate terrine. A very enjoyable dessert wine. Now to see if I can find more of it.
