2007 Gattavecchi Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva dei Padri Serviti

We picked this up in 2017 in Montepulciano square, after walking up the steep hill from the parking lot down below. We tasted several Vino Nobile including this one at the “houses” that were open at the time of our visit. Took this bottle home as a souvenir.

Decanted for about two hours before the first glass was poured. Brick orange red. Let’s have a taste. Oh my! This is dark and brooding, but not loud by any means. Characterful. Very balanced I think, acid there but in check, with a range of fruit maybe not all of it dark, but none of it bright. Herbs and savory stuff and a finish that doesn’t. Paired beautifully with an herb encrusted pork loin (rosemary, thyme, basil) topped with an olive oil and garlic bread crumb mixture. A pleasure!
