TN: 2015 Domaine Robert-Denogent Pouilly-Fuissé La Croix Vieilles Vignes

14% ABV and 30 month elevage. After a 2017 Marc Colin En Montceau, this was like getting slapped in the nape by the cool kid from school. Rich yellow, slightly dusty color; wild nose: harsh and mineral with a few underlying notes of lemon, apple cider, quince, persimmon and cantaloupe. There was also an element of freshly coated varnish that made this jarring, unbalanced yet really provocative at first. Striking acidity and wide, rippling mouth feel. With food and aeration all of these elements integrated and this turned out to be a delicious wine in its own way, like a Chardonnay with Chenin Blanc make up and a turbo pack. One of the coolest wines I’ve had in a long time.

Denogent makes some excellent wines, usually a little on the rich side, but balanced.
