TN: 2001 La Serena Brunello di Montalcino

  • 2001 La Serena Brunello di Montalcino - Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino (6/21/2020)
Went down to the cellar and just pulled a bottle, randomly. I find that if I go down, and ‘consider’ things, I’m down there forever, with the same old routine of shaking my head and uttering to myself ‘not ready’. Well, this is, and isn’t ready. If you like broad shouldered red/dark red fruits, sinewy textures, and a finish that envelops the tongue, this is your wine. That said, it’ll be ‘my wine’, too, but not until another 5-7 years of rest. Which is to say a few things - this must have been quite the wine on release, and what a brilliant wine this will be when it’s at peak maturity (for my palate); no sign of tertiary notes at present. Should drink thru 2030, at least. A delicious beast that will become a prince with some add’l patience. PnP; avg sediment, great fill/cork, medium ruby hue. highly recommended

The best of the 3 bottles I’ve opened in the past 3 years.
