2004 Dönnhoff Norheimer Dellchen Riesling Spätlese- Germany, Nahe (6/27/2020)
Interesting wine, in that it has a vanilla cream element that reminds me very much of Wehlener Sonnenuhr, but it still shows the Nahe fruit salad elements as well. There’s the barest hint of honey on the palate, and ample, but balanced acidity. It’s a bit lacking in presence/sustain, so not a remarkable wine, but one that states its case in a quiet voice. Unexpected for a Dellchen wine, as that site tends towards the brash and stern, but a pleasant quaff with room for development.
Thanks, David.
Last week we had the Donnhoff 2004 Schlossbockelheimer Felsenberg Riesling Spatlese. Liked it, but nothing special. Rich fruit but seemed soft. (I like the “Nahe fruit salad” phrase.) I’m looking forward to trying the 2005 version soon, hoping for a bit more acidity.
Regards,
Peter
