TN: 2008 Kelley Fox Maresh Vineyard Pinot Noir

2008 Kelley Fox Maresh Vineyard Pinot Noir

Moderate bricking. The foresty cherry aromas jump from the glass…blatantly Oregon. Very mild anise and baking spice with an underlying soy/mushroom umami. The palate is all about savory integration. The fruit is supportive and slightly jammy with loads of secondary character. It’s possible this might be a year or 2 past peak…moderate intensity. Balanced acidity. The tannins are completely cooperative, which is saying something for 2008. A wine that prioritizes class over intensity. A Pinot illustrative of a gentle touch taming a flamboyant vintage. 13% abv. Zero heat. Fine showing.

Very good stuff! Thanks for this note. She does a beautiful job with this fruit.

Sounds really great, Richard. Would love to try a Kelley Fox wine with this much age. Thanks for the note.

Only became familiar with this winery this year thanks to this site and recently ordered 3 bottles of the Maresh Pinot a few days ago.

very cool note. not very many of these older KF wines and notes floating around, but happy to see that these wines age gracefully like I think we all suspected they would. thanks!

Under screw cap FWIW. With none of the uncooperative initial funkiness that can sometimes appear. 10ish years horizontal in the racks.

Richard, I’m curious if you had any leftovers for a follow-up note on the 2008 Kelley Fox Maresh Pinot today. If yes, any notable developments? Thanks.

James

Yes James, just finished it off tonight. Perhaps somewhat tired but still showing plenty of balance and similar character without falling apart. A bit more of the secondary foresty understory and mushroom notes.

Thanks for the excellent note and follow up Rich,

Hope you and Joanne are doing well.

Best,
