TN: 2017 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage Blanc Chevalier de Sterimberg

  • 2017 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage Blanc Chevalier de Sterimberg - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage (6/24/2020)
Pale straw color. Not having very few Hermitage Blancs, in fact this was probably my first, I was really looking forward to finally trying a Sterimberg. Portrays a green melon character, but very dry with very little perceptible sweetness. Classic waxiness and fun to swirl around to easily the glass to view the oily / viscous texture of the wine. A bit simple initially, this hit more complexity as it warmed and was almost optimal at darn near room temp. Perhaps this gains with time, but at $60, I’m not really sure this is really re purchase for me as I can cherry pick some nice Durand St Peray $24 or even the terrific Faury St Joseph Blanc for $35. Great label though! (90 pts.)
