Jonas Dostert - German Chardonnay/Spatburgunder

Finally got around to opening some of Jonas Dostert’s range of wine.

Jonas is in the Obermosel near Luxembourg, young guy farming organically with low intervention and sulphur. Mosel Fine Wines featured them him recently and I got a mixed dozen delivered. A couple of the wines feature Elbling, one of the oldest German white varieties, with a skin fermented red too.

Opened the 2018 Chardonnay today, four year old vines, old burgundy barrels from 12,13 and 16. 30mg sulphur and only gently filtered.

It’s really very good, apple and lemon, bursting with taut acidity and unobtrusive oak on the finish. Very racy, light and fresh. €15. 12.5%, 832 bottles.

The 2018 Spatburgunder is more medium weight, with black cherry, less ‘classical’ than the Chardonnay but not ripe, oaky or extracted at all, but also not to be confused with a Bourgogne Rouge. Just one barrel (I think) from 2014. Similar price. 12.5%, 377 bottles

Both were sealed with Diam 10.
