TN: 2016 Peter Lauer Schonfels Riesling Faß 11 Großes Gewächs

Slightly muted nose at first, with only yellow floral tones and lemon/lime spritz. With more air the wine starts to show white smoke, lychee, underripe pineapple, and a touch of Szechuan peppercorn. Weightless, yet rich and round on the palate, with excellent concentration of lemon, grapefruit peel, sage, and other green herbs. The finish is long and off-dry, and demonstrates a nice balance of richness, salinity, and crushed slate.

Not sure what the optimal drinking window is for Lauer’s GGs. Will likely wait to open my remaining bottle at 10-12 years from vintage to see how this evolves. (93 pts.)
