I asked offhandedly if one of my sources had any more. I am now up to 67 bottles and three magnums. He has no more thank God.

Just picked up some from storage, and will start trying to reduce them forthwith.

I just grabbed six from one of your sources! Thanks for the tip!

After that, looks like it's 24 bottles of the 2013 Mugneret Gibourg Vosne. I don't tend to buy much more than a dozen of any single wine and vintage these days though, I just don't have the space or resources really. To my mind, a dozen is a good number to age and follow a wine.
I also went pretty deep on the 2006 Geynale. How has it been drinking lately. Had a bottle of the 2003, I think my last bottle, and it was singing!

Truly excellent wine. I also bought the Kabinett from this vintage which is superb and has been drinking well from the word go.

2013 Bartolo Mascarello

I generally buy in smaller quantities, but do have 15 examples of >2 cases of a single wine. 8 are Piedmont. 5 Champagne. 1 N. Rhone. 1 White Burg.

It's still an adolescent. Enough tannin has melted that it's not forbidding, but nor has it reached full maturity. I'm opening one every other year for the time being.

I remember when I first got into wine I was told Cornas not only didn’t age but died prematurely. Then we had a bottle of 20 year old Jaboulet from an off vintage, 1973, recommended by a sommelier at Girardet, an amazing but sadly defunct 3 star restaurant in Switzerland. I may had better meals since, but only one I can think of offhand. And the wine was lovely; ethereal, and complex, never intrusive, but intertwined beautifully with the food.

I rarely buy even case quantities so mine will pale in comparison. Still have a fair number of some wedding and birth year wines:
11 x 1989 Lynch Bages
11 x 1988 Krug
11 x 2016 Produttori Barbaresco
10 x 1988 Lynch Bages

Did you have more 89 LB? There is no problem keeping it as it will outlive all of us, but it has been delicious for a long time.

Just an FYI, the restaurant is not defunct but still going strong... of course no longer with Fredy Girardet at the helm but still at 3 stars (Hotel de Ville, Crissier).

I think the most I ever had was 30 magnums of Matrot Blagny La Piece Sous Le Bois 1976. They are much missed.

I ended up buying a barrel of Volnay 1er cru Dr. Muteau in the 2018 Hospices de Beaune auction in 2018 so that will be my biggest holding when I actually import it. Keeping my fingers crossed the tariffs will be repealed. Prior to that cases were the most of any wine.

Holy cow... a barrel!

My biggest holdings are 24 bottles + 3 to 6 magnums of several more recent releases (like canon 15, rauzan segla 18, Lalande 18/19, HB 16, Carmes 16, LLC 16/18, mission 19, mouton 16/19, dom perignon and cristal 08, still waiting on the cristal mags though).

I have 12 bottles of a number of wines from a single vintage but have never gone beyond that. I guess part of it is buying 12 bottles of a single wine, particularly in Burgundy, constrains the variety in my cellar a little more than I want. More power to the people who are blowing by that limit.

Yup, those are the # of bottles currently in the cellar. Completely agree about longevity. Bottles I’ve cellared since release are still too young. Those I purchased 15 years later are just starting to enter the maturity plateau.

I posted earlier, but I posted a NV Champagne, which is cheating a bit. My largest holding of a single wine in a single vintage is 2015 Emrich-Schonleber Halenberg GG - 55 bottles and 3 magnums.

A bottle in early March was stunning, despite its youth, and made me very happy to have this stash.

I once had that many 2015 Keller Von der Fels, but it's been so delicious that I'm now down quite a few.

48 bottles (36 + 6 magnums) of Hermitage Le Greal 2018 or 36 bottles of Hermitage Le Greal 2017 is probably the prize of the cellar! I've got a sizeable collection of some of the Chapoutier chateauneufs from2 018 as well - for a 97 point Jeb wine, they seemed well priced!

My biggest holding is of 2016 Figeac I think two and a half cases which I figured was a free option on an eventual upgrade. They brought in Rolland and now Neal Martin rates it 100 points rather than the 90ish for Comte d’Aramon’s efforts. The new Figeac is riper than the previous version but the change in style is not so discrete and the wine is still very good, Rolland has not been given a spare set of keys. In St-Emilion’s chaotic and opaque classification Figeac would be a dead cert for an upgrade. I will be happy to keep six.

I tasted the 1998 and 2016 Figeac a couple of moths apart, and allowing for the gap, I did see strong similarities.

For me it depends. The 17 greal collection above of 36 bottles is probably 6 for me 30 for sale at prime. The 18 greal where I have 48 bottles ill probably sell half and drink half depending on where the price goes to.

I answered in a rather flip way the first time you asked because the question is confusing to me and makes me shake my head. Of course I (and I assume pretty much everyone else on this board) plan to drink them all! There are a few check in bottles during youth, then, once the wine is in the zone, you maybe want to drink a bottle a month - 3 cases, for instance, only lasts 3 years. Even if you're only drinking a bottle every other month, 3 cases lasts only 6 years. Almost all of the wine I buy and cellar has a longer life span than that (as do I, I hope!), so I'm not worried about rushing. I intend to drink wine for the rest of my life, and I never want to run out of my favorites.

The only way I can really understand why drinking 2-3 cases (or more, within reason) of a single wine in a single vintage would seem impossible is if you only drink a bottle or two a week. Maybe from that perspective I can see it. But if you are drinking several bottles a week and sometimes entertaining, it's just not that much. And again I'll say it doesn't at all have to preclude variety.
Sort of ITB - my husband imports a small amount of sake and I help out

Probably, no.

I'm surprised to hear that, Jayson and curious! Do you mean you plan to sell some? Or that you expect some will be passed on to the next generation? Or just that you realistically don't expect to get to them, but want the option?

Then we had a bottle of 20 year old Jaboulet from an off vintage, 1973, recommended by a sommelier at Girardet, an amazing but sadly defunct 3 star restaurant in Switzerland. I may had better meals since, but only one I can think of offhand. And the wine was lovely; ethereal, and complex, never intrusive, but intertwined beautifully with the food.
While Girardet isn't at the helm the restaurant still exists (Restaurant de l'Hôtel de ville in Crissier) and is truly fantastic - one of the best 3*'s I've been to (I think I've been 3-4x?)

Keeping my fingers crossed the tariffs will be repealed. Prior to that cases were the most of any wine.

At some point I expect I’ll sell. I only have the one wine at that quantity. The Juge 2014. I love it. But once you get to 7-10 times cost in the secondary market, plus lots of other wine I expect to drink if (knock on wood) I live to a ripe old age (I’m 50), plus other life expenses to weigh against its value, do I really need that much of one wine? So I expect at some point I will pull the trigger and sell. I almost did earlier this year but it’s not a easy decision for this one. It’s not a fungible good.

I like your cellar philosophy but it doesn’t match mine. I don’t do CT, but I once figured out how many different wines I have among the ~125-130 cases in the cellar and it was over 500 I think.

Depends what ‘drink them all’ means. I have a lot of 2002 DP. It’s kind of earmarked for my kids weddings.

I doubt I’ll sell any though.
