TN: 2011 Dominio de Atauta Ribera del Duero (Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero)

I read about the Atauta village of Ribera del Duero in the most recent Wine & Spirits and decided to check this out. Under $35 - wow, what a wine. I need to do a deeper dive into Ribera del Duero and Rioja.

Deep dark garnet color. Aromas of black currant and black cherry skin, cocoa dust, pressed lavender, savory spices and saddle leather. Beautifully ripe and rich palate, with high-toned black fruit and fleshy secondary spice and earth indicative of the aromatics. Voluminous mid-palate structure with an elegant and expressive density. Very complimentary acid, with dense plush tannins. Finishes with good length and notes of dried black fruit and hints of bitterness. Early secondary, harmonious, will continue to age well. Excellent.****
