TN: Three New Natural Whites '18....(short/boring)

Tried these three over the last few days:

  1. QuintoQuarto RibollaGialla IGT: Delle Venezie (12.5%; T.ElentenyImprts; U; 20 hrs skin-contact) Franco Terpin/SanFloriano 2018: Loads of floculant sediment; deep burnished bronze/bit brownish/orange quite cloudy color; very strong phenolic/resiny/skin-contact fairly mousey/hantavirus slight white pepper/RG rather unpleasant nose; pretty tart/tangy strong phenolic/skin-contact/resiny/cidery some mousey/hantavirus/unclean/funky quite sour flavor w/ light tannins; long quite tart/tangy/acidic/very sour very phenolic/resiny/skin-contact quite mousey/hantavirus rather metallic/austere some tannin finish; fairly complex but not in a good way; very little RG fruit and dominated by phenolics & pretty unclean & sour; not very attractive on its own and not saved by the food. $26.50 (KK)

  1. QuintoQuarto Bianco Sive IGT: Delle Venezie (PinotGrigio Rosato; 13%; U; 3 days skin-contact) 2018: Light garnet/bronze/orangey color w/ loads of flocculant sediment; slight floral/aromatic/earthy/cranberry some phenolic/resiny rather interesting/pleasant nose; quite tart/tangy/acidic light floral/cranberry/bit sour some phenolic/resiny/cidery interesting pleasant flavor; med.long light floral/cranberry fairly phenolic/resiny w/ a dreadful mousey character that wells up in the aftertaste of the wine & leaves a foul taste in your mouth; shows more cranberry fruit but lots of phenolics and this dreadful aftertaste that destroys the wine; not saved by the food. $26.50 (KK)

  1. isa Les Chemins de Bassac Vin de Pays: Cotes de Thongue (12.5%; 33% Viognier/67% Roussanne; Jenny&Francois Slctns; Organically grown grapes; MeBaD) SCEA des Coteaux de Bassac/Puimisson 2018: Med.gold color; quite fragrant floral/honeysuckle/Rouss slight perfumed/Viog/pear slight earthy/herbal/perfumed talc quite pleasant nose; bit soft fairly lush slight metallic/tangy light floral/honeysuckle/Rouss bit pear/Viog slight earthy pleasant lightweight flavor; med.long bit soft/lush light Rouss/honeysuckle/floral/pear/Viog slight metallic/tangy/earthy finish; totally clean which surprised me for a natural wine; nothing profound but altogether pleasant white if lightweight at a fair price. $17.50 (KK)

A wee BloodyPulpit:

  1. Terpin: These QuintoQuarto wines are made from the young vines on the Terpin estate hard by the Slovene border. Both pretty unclean & mousey and not a producer I’m likely to try again.

  1. Cotes de Thongue: This is a small area in the Languedoc in the South of France.
