2012 Kessler-Haak Pinot Noir Pommard Clone Kessler-Haak Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills (5/11/2020)
– decanted immediately before initial taste –
– tasted non-blind over 2 – 3 hours –

NOSE: medium+ expressiveness; red licorice; light note of apple skin; hint of alcohol.

BODY: medium-full bodied; lots of fine particulate matter present.

TASTE: plush/smooth mouthfeel; big, but not huge; medium-light oak; medium-low acidity; medium leather note (possibly brett? – I do recall noticing this when sampled in the tasting room a while back); supple; sweet blueberry; in a “relaxed primary” state right now. gut impression score: 89 – 90, for the style, which is “bigger” than I prefer. If this ages well, I’d bet it’ll be on the strength of its fruit; that said, that’s not a gamble I would take: Drink Now and over the near term.
