A couple of tasty treats last night for Heidi’s Birthday.
2011 Domaine Jacques Carillon Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, Grand Cru: A fabulous nose of honeysuckle, Arum lilies, mint, lemon and pure white peach. In the mouth a glycerol sheath is shrunk wrapped tight against the wine’s minerally bones. It has such great detail, coupled with restraint. The finish has grapefruit rind freshness, saline minerality and length to burn. One of the very best wines of the year.
2007 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée St. Vivant, Grand Cru: The nose is a veritable rose garden, black earth, plant matter and rose petals. It is sweet and vinous with some aniseed spice. There are root vegetable flavours too. It has nice flesh and a silky feel against the gums. It builds through the palate and really fans out on the finish, leaving a highly-perfumed calling card. A delicious, mid-weight DRC RSV that is drinking beautifully right now.
