TN - Giulia Negri Barolo La Tartufaia 2015 & Calluna CVC 2013

I was curious about trying Giulia Negri Barolo, so I picked up a bottle from Kermit Lynch and opened it right away - very elegant and charming bottle. Calluna CVS 2014 is showing very well.

  • 2014 Calluna Vineyards Cuvée “CVC” - USA, California, Sonoma County, Chalk Hill (5/17/2020)
Deep garnet color. Expressive aromatics of blackberry & currant, dried violet, wild sage, rosemary & allspice, hints of cedar and tobacco. Open dark fruit on the attack with nice intensity, along with secondary spice layers. Voluminous mid-palate with nice concentration, elegant density and rounded edges. Harmonious acid and tannins, broad grained and round. Lingering juicy fruit and a slight pleasant bitterness on the finish. This is drinking very well - very early secondary. ****
  • 2015 Giulia Negri Barolo La Tartufaia - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo (5/15/2020)
Medium ruby color. Floral aromatics - rose hips, lavender, rosemary, nutmeg, with fresh pomegranate and hints of cherry, along with mushroomy earth. Very elegant on the front palate, with shy but emerging fresh red fruit notes and a floral and savory spice secondary core. Very lithe and feminine mid-palate density, with mouthwatering acid and fine tannins, deceptively firm. Succulent and lengthy on the finish. Very charming. Showing well early. ****
