TN: 1990 Chateau Guiraud - Subdued Beach Music

Opened the '90 Guiraud Sauternes today while we are visiting Hilton Head - people are congregating in groups and a little too close for my comfort but the ocean water feels real good. Decanted for an hour or so. Caramel / burnt orange color, nose of apricot, added pear and caramel to the taste, and some brown sugar and orange in the finish. Tasty and balanced but not extraordinary. Hoping it will develop some more interesting elements as the evening progresses.
Listening to Coltrane and staring at the water, so that adds bonus points. flirtysmile

Thanks for the note, Johnny. Did you consume post-meal? I rarely drink Sauternes, but it’s awful fun to open a bottle with a larger group and backfilling is CHEAP!

Hope you had a great time in Hilton Head.

Drank it post-meal Corey. Showed close to the same the next evening.
Even a ‘basic’ Sauternes, IMO, shines with blue cheese. (This being better than basic). Did not have any blue cheese available on the trip but still enjoyable on its own. Hope you are getting some fresh air and continue to be safe.

This is one estate where I feel the modern ones are much better than all the flabby ones of that time frame. Maybe I was unlucky but it seemed like so many older ones I had in the 90’s or so were all just tired, flabby. I stayed away until 2001, when it seemed to get crisper.
