I had 6 bottles of N.09 arrive in July with some corks pushing. I believe they were shipped 2-day air at the time. I emailed dN with a photo and this was the reponse:
To update: I tried N.09 this weekend (you can see my notes in the tasting thread) and did not think it had any traces of heat damage. Will come back to it in about 5-6 months.

Has anyone received #18, the Malbec? I’m in SoCal and Cam’s email suggests they’re past that number. I know we ordered it but haven’t received it.

I think you might have missed the part of the email that said "We are holding shipments to California this week due to weather and will resume next week".

I got #18 Malbec last week (despite my request, and acknowledgement, that it be held). Haven't tried it yet. #s 13 and 15 also shipped. Didn't receive #17 CS yet. Yay for that.
Cheers,

I didn’t miss it. The email also included specifics as to which #s would start shipping next week:

Oct. 19: N.24 to N.37
Oct. 26: N.38 to N.48
Nov. 2: N.49 to N.66
Nov. 9: N.67 to N.70+

I concluded that #18 might already have shipped. Some HAVE received it apparently, per post 5809 above.

Still around 100 cases of 67 left it seems - this offer may eclipse 24 hours even with only 300 cases originally available! Thoughts on what this bodes, particularly for some of the other Cabs that we know are coming? Or is this just a blip based on the specific offering that isn’t likely to hold true for others?

Don’t get me wrong I still expect this will sell out in a couple days at most and that is still plenty quick for the broader model to work, just wondering if we are seeing a change in buying behavior to date.
still <100 cases available, pretty interesting

Anyone receive #17? I just picked up #1, #2 and #17 from my offsite storage- all 3 arrived the same day. But the corks on #17 are slightly protruding, and #1 and #2 are clearly recessed. I emailed Cam...

Edited:

Cam responded literally 4 minutes after I emailed him:
"Hey Alan – we’ve had some issues with the bottling line not pushing all the way down in the early runs but its solved now. Anyhow, those wines are prfectly fine and nothing to worry about.

Cameron"

Thanks Cam!

Interesting that Garagiste today offers a Chehalem SV Estate pinot noir for...$19 a bottle! I am shocked! 😂 But truth be told I'd rather have the actual vintner's label 10 out of 10 times. 2014 Chahalem Olenik for those keeping score at home.
The Garagiste offer was for the '14, which is coming into its drinking window. The de Negoce Chehalem is '19, which won't be ready for five years. I bit on the Garagiste offer, and recommended it to a friend.

Drinking windows are beyond subjective, especially if you’re particular about where in the wine’s development curve you like to drink.

Since I’m not too familiar with Cam’s palate, and these are all “unknown” wines, I’m going to be cracking up a bottle of each of my offerings after they arrive and assessing drinking windows independently, as should everyone really.

On the hindsight note, the way I approach if if purchasing by the case, as is the case with dN, I always assess a bottle relatively early on and make a preliminary judgement on when I'd like to start going through the rest of the case. Then I open another bottle that's in line with my presumed drinking window and reevaluate. If it's hitting hitting the point I’m looking for I just go to town on the rest of the case, and reserve two bottles to see how it develops post that (i.e. to confirm if I drank most of them in the right window or if they could have benefited from some more time).
I wish I had your discipline on the drinking schedule. I try but certain things are hard to keep in stock (Goodfellow) even if I buy multiple cases. I always start with good intentions but struggle. Very excited about the soon coming Ravenswood Library offers. The last batch was drinking really well. Will help me from baby killing too many wines...

Cheers
I think I made my wine consumption sound a bit more cold and clinical than it actually is

The takeaway I was trying to get at is that people shouldn’t be afraid to consume their wines “too early” if they think the wine is drinking well at the moment. If you think the wine is drinking well, consume it at that time. If you’re afraid of missing out on its evolution, tuck away a bottle or two. Over time, you can discern if those two bottles tucked away were better or worse than the earlier ones and adjust your drinking windows for future wines. If they improve, maybe cellar the case (or however many bottles you have) for a bit longer. If the two bottles aren’t as good, then going forward drink them all earlier or just keep one.

I just really hate the whole idea of being afraid of committing infanticide in wines. If you enjoyed drinking your wines younger, that just means your personal drinking window is different than other people.

well, he did say in this morning's email that he plans on trying to get an offer out today...

Regarding them not offering a long term storage solution, this surprises me not at all, I imagine he realized just what a headache he was potentially opening up for himself. Best to stick to your core business and do it well.

I think this is the first real stinker offer we've had, right? Not that the wine is bad or anything, but it just didn't seem as tempting as they normally are. And usually DN shiner bottlings are instant buys.

Yeah, I was quite surprised it isn't selling that well. I guess it's the price to value ratio that's throwing off most people? Or maybe people are completely filled up with CA cab. I guess we'll see when the next cab offer come around.

And to Eric's, point, I stand corrected. Pretty high chances of an offer today given Cam's statement in his email. I missed that part

de Negoce bottling line- they place the bottles directly into those oversized shipping containers, vs other wineries that use 12X750mL cases to transport wines. In this manner, wine is only handled once and is final. Those boxes are stored at warehouse until shipping direct to us the customers.
Long term storage for dN means storing those oversized boxes, possibly eroding margins/bargaining power for dN?

Tried the OG 24 last night, posted on CT.

Cheers.

I think its more the latter than the former. People are having wines delivered and panicking about what they are going to do with all this wine.

Considering there’s still 90 cases of #67 remaining, I have pretty low confidence in a new offer coming out today.
I think this is the first real stinker offer we've had, right? Not that the wine is bad or anything, but it just didn't seem as tempting as they normally are. And usually DN shiner bottlings are instant buys.
This thread is beyond hilarious. Wine doesn’t sell out overnight and it’s deemed a failure.

Well it's the first time it's happened after however many dozens of releases. I think it's noteworthy, is all.

Could be the effect, as mentioned above, of folks confronting the harsh realities of over-exuberant ordering.

Not just that, says only 250 (or 300?) cases. Usually sells out 1000 cases in <24 hours.

[cheers.gif] I like Reisling, and probably would have gotten some if I wasn't already going to be balls deep in OG cases.

This one is easy, it’s Trefethen without a doubt.

Yes and no word on RS. I strongly prefer bone dry Riesling's.

Sean
The email offer says “bone dry”.

Sean- the offer specifically notes it's bone dry.

Pretty certain this is Trefethen as suspected.

FWIT the 2019 Trefethen has 4.6g/L of RS
