OG #8 includes free shipping. So this might help to justify the purchase.
Where do you see free shipping? Or do you have to checkout first?

After check out. But Matt said that it was a mistake on the website. I might get charged later.

CH confirmed via email that shipping will be 2 day Fedex (at least to the east coast)and there will be ice packs in the shipping cartons.

Sigh...finally caved and bought one of these offers, been trying so hard not to buy wine! I'd be interested in splits on the off chance anyone is in the Greenwich, CT area fell free to PM.

Any guesses on winery? Mt Brave seems like a decent candidate, around the right price point, some similar tasting notes on past vintages, similar ABV and they've used merlot / malbec / petit verdot in previous bottlings. I think they have reasonably large production as well though couldn't confirm. Just a guess...
The only thing that doesn’t line up is that the email says it comes from the southern end of the AVA, and I believe Mt. Brave is north.

Good point, think that rules Mt Brave out...probably something less exciting. Also says 19% St Helena fruit. Poked around some more but couldn't come up with anything that's a match

Just got an email asking for $29 additional on #8. Odd that it wasn’t included in the initial transaction but stuff happens.

Anxious to see what happens with 2019 vintages. 2018 was big, so plenty to sell.

Experienced Sonoma winemaker Nancy Walker was jubilant about 2018. “The quality is exceptional and the harvest will be 25% to 33% above average.”

The shipping mistake was an honest mistake. I had no problem paying the $29 when emailed.

Re 2019; I'm more curious to see how many more damn 2017/2018 Napa Cabs he is going to offer??? Is it going to be a wine a week? Would be nice to know what the pipeline looks like so don't over order.

Upcoming releases, assuming they are released in numerical order...
#9 is Pinot Noir.
#10 is, I believe, rose.
#12 is Chardonnay.
#15 is Merlot.
#16 is Pinot.
#18 is Malbec.
#19 is Pinot.

Wonder if the Cab-heavy lineup in any way represents a bigger market truth, i.e. there's a lot of unsold premium Cabernet out there?

Gotta think the people interested in these have long ago exhausted their desire for "cabernet by the case I've never tasted". I mean each is basically the same ($10-$15 price point for $50-$100 value). Hard to distinguish for the casual wine drinker like myself.

Ever try Silver Oak Cabernet? They use all American Oak

This is the make up for OG 8:

81% Mt. Veeder
19% St. Helena

79% Cabernet Sauvignon
12% Merlot
5% Malbec
3% Petite Verdot
1% Cabernet Franc

50% new French and American oak
50% seasoned cooperage
14.4% Alc.

Some American Oak is actually seasoned in Europe. Winemakers these days are working with many cooperages, while the thought of exclusivity using fine grained French Oak for Cabernet is changing. I’m seeing this in other parts of the world as well where I source. Just a thought to consider..

I asked about the style I as don’t often associate big & rich with Mt. Veeder fruit.

The vineyard is south-facing and near Carneros. Was assured this is big, chewy, robust Cabernet.

I appreciate their honesty.

Also what is the science behind newly bottled wine sitting for 3 months

So, there's an atlas peak cab coming up for offer 21.

Anyone had carmel valley pinot? It's the only red wine registered so far at 14% or less. I thought carmel valley was hot and better suited for cab/merlot?

Billo posted this over at cellartrackers in the Rasa special bottling thread, fwiw. Makes sense.

"OMG, I am seeing folks posting notes on this wine. It is far too early to do so! One note said that the wine was "muddled." Please keep in mind that the wine was racked from barrels to tank, then to a tanker truck, transferred to the bottling facility, crossflowed, bottled, the cases then were transferred back to the winery, and then the wine was shipped out. This was all in the last 2 weeks. You have it give it some time to chill out and come back to itself. Transportation and bottling is shocking to the wine. The wine always comes back to itself, but to rate it now is doing the wine a bit of a disservice.

The wine is anything but muddled, it is a meticulously crafted blend where each component was added into the blend if and only if it was synergistic to the overall blend, definitely not a kitchen sink approach.

This wine, to me, is a solid 93-95 point wine. And it is vastly different and better than the Occam's Razor red blend, lots more complexity, layering, and longer finish.

If after 2 months or so of cellaring you still think that the wine is muddled or disjointed or lacking focus then ok, our palates don't align. But to judge it prematurely does not seem very fair.

Cheers,
-Billo"

I’ll gladly pay the $5 so it can stay in climate controlled conditions until things cool down in the fall. Supposed to be close to 90 here in the Philly area this week.

Bought first two cases of the Cabernets. Will take chances with the weather (I believe the email I received said 2 day air for shipment). Will wait a few weeks and open a bottle. Even though wine seems to be a good value I don’t want to keep buying cases of wine for $100-200 that I don’t care for.

Debating doing the storage vs giving it a go. Curious though, I have never heard of unfiltered wines being less heat tolerant than filtered wines, but that's what the recent email mentions. One would think they would both cook at roughly the same temp.

Here in TX, it's already 100 some days.. hold on shipping through October (when it can still in the 90s) is a no Brainer.

Also, kudos to Nate on figuring out the lineup. Looking forward to offer #21!

I also was surprised by the statement. I do not know if there’s any science to back this up.
As far as leaving newly bottled wines alone for a while, the wines are usually sulfited at bottling. This will make the wine very backward and locked up, and could even contribute a “matchstick“ flavor from the S02.

This search can be quite helpful in figuring out who made private labels sometimes. Usually, the listed agent is just some random bottling plant (therefore it could be anyone) but sometimes folks have private labels actually bottled at a winery which makes it pretty easily to identify a “shiner.”

I am opting for shipping regardless of temps. I believe he stated they would be controlled shipping so wine should be ok. The other reason being we are basically unsecured creditors on this new venture. I don't think the company will cease to exist anytime soon but if for some reason something does I would prefer to get as many of my purchases as possible.

CH confirmed via email that shipping will be 2 day Fedex (at least to the east coast)and there will be ice packs in the shipping cartons.
Not that I don't trust this, but can anyone else confirm on the ice packs? I am trying to decide whether to ship to NJ now, and if this is true, I would definitely ship now. I got an email last night asking to opt into the hold and there is no mention of the ice packs. I would've expected them to tout this if they are taking that extra care...

Summer Hold is showing as “sold out” for me. I guess I’m taking delivery [scratch.gif]

Same.
It's going to be too hot here in Cleveland next week for wine delivery.
