Damn, Washington and Oregon expansion is gonna be fun! It’s taken all my willpower to only buy one case so far but a nice looking Oregon pinot could break me.

Btw every offer selling out in 24 hrs is definitely false right? Not sure why he needs to make that claim, he’s had incredible success and could just say most have? Maybe I’m misunderstanding
I am interested in the Washington and Oregon wines that may be offered. We have been buying them for a few years after driving through the area several times visiting our daughter at college. we found there are incredibly good wines to be had at reasonable and unreasonable prices. Walla Walla is like Napa & Sonoma was 40+ years ago, sheds out in the middle of nowhere and friendly people. But the wines are more grown up, Bordeaux style delicious not nearly as hot as the big California Cabs once were. Don't get lost in the reds, there are plenty of top shelf white wines to discover and drink too.
I'm really looking forward to Washington after trying the Rasa no label bottling.

N.25 is posted - Spring Mtn Cab.

I'm guessing it's Spring Mountain Vineyards. Sells for 85 at the winery's list price, they do grow Malbec which I assume makes it into the final blend which isn't detailed by the winery.

I bought...cause I'm buying every "high end" cab.

800 cases, "first tranche" means there is a LOT of this. According to his new sign up email, he will be hiking prices after the 800 sells out for the next tranche.

Based on CT reviews Spring Mountain does seem right, and 94 pts WE/95 pts WS. To buy or not to buy...

Spring Mountain Vineyard isn't on the western side / upper slopes though! And their Cab has merlot and petit verdot in it. Not sure it's them.

Spring Mountain itself is on the western side of the valley. The email doesn't specify which side of Spring Mountain.

Although I can't speak to the "upper slopes"

Good point I read that wrong the "western side" part. But hard to square the blend not having merlot and petit verdot in it when the other ones all did. But yah it is prob Spring Mountain Vineyard given the scores/price.

The way I read this offer it's essentially a shiner/identical to whatever wine is sold at the winery. The large number of cases kind of speaks to that. 800 first tranche prob means 1600 total. The 94-96 point scores over multiple years seriously de-risks the purchase. But I am not buying 2 cases of really anything else going forward given I will prob end up with 40-50 cases by the end of the year.

I am seriously considering this one. It sounds like a Cab my wife would enjoy.

The stylistic description and same blend as producer is extremely promising.

Like many, I too am tired of the %15+ Napa bruisers, so i was happily in for this. I realize there's no guarantee of quality, but at that price I am optimistically rolling the dice (and splitting with 2 other friends).

The winery hasn't even sold their 2017 yet! So I'm guessing this needs a good 2+ years to get to where it needs to get to honestly.

Certainly should be the case.

But that definitely feeds back into the potential opportunity here. This is the window when wineries who aim for 1.5-2 years of oak age are bottling. The supply chain is effed up, so their 2017s haven't moved and they need space for their 2020 harvest.

I decided to go in on this. I don't have much Cab in my cellar, and this looks like the floor should be fair value with potential upside for aging 10+ years.

Yeah I went on this too. SMV seems very likely and that seems it would be a great deal at $21 shipped. As Matt said, the scores de-risk it and Cameron's description says "this is their bottling blend" which is nice

I bit. Spring Mountain cab, low abv, high proportion of cab franc, winery blend, and mid-90s scores on prior vintages make this offer particularly appealing, IMO. My second purchase.

SMV seems likely. Robert Craig is another possibility there, and has been suspected in the past, but the production numbers seem wrong to allow such a large offer, assuming the second traunch is similar in size.

I ordered already, but maybe we can split cases in the future. There have been several i have contemplated but didn't want to go for 12 bottles. This one can be great, especially if SMV, considering CH claims its the vineyard's blend itself.

In other news, I used my Amex on this and it qualified for the $5 "shop small" promo, funny enough.

I took a case as well. Slowing running out of storage space. Fortunately splitting cases with family to that helps. Of course if its the cats meow when we open I will regret splitting. Catch 22

Based on the spread in my order #'s (I ordered two cases in separate orders, 2 hrs apart), there are at least 200 cases sold already. I'm orders 18027 and 17826, so there are 201 orders in between with a min of 1 case per order = 201 (including my 2, so 203). So if there are 800 cases in the first tranche, at a minimum 25% are already sold. This first tranche will prob sell out well before the evening hours...

He is going to increase pricing in the 2nd tranche. to make more money I suppose. Or maybe he agreed with the winery to buy more contingent upon him selling out the first order, and the winery wanted more to do optional pricing like that vs selling all of it up front?

Can't believe you got 2 cases. Gonna make me want to get 2 cases. It does seem like a very de-risked offer. Main thing holding me back on 2nd is that it really needs to be cellar'd for years it sounds like.

I think SMV makes sense. They have done similar sales in the past. I have had a couple bottles of the 2013 Ninety+ Cellars Lot 150 Cab and the cork is the actual SMV labeled cork. Excited to try these. This is my 5th order (all Cabs).

Given all the excitement around these de Negoce offers, I bought a case of No. 12 (Chardonnay). I opened one this evening. If this is any indication, I might regret buying a case of No. 17 (cabernet). This chardonnay is harsh and lacking any depth. Some oaky guava, but not much else here. It reminds me of one of those airline chardonnays that come in the little plastic bottles. Instant headache. Really disappointing. 80pts, at best.
I bought a case of 12 as well; disappointing to hear this. I do think there is a chance this could be related to bottle shock, as the muted flavor you're referring to is common to bottle shock, and this wine was just made a week or two ago, and then got shipped across the country. My case of 12 got sent to the wrong address, so it's probably going to be cooked to death anyway by the time I get to it, but I wouldn't assume it is going to be a bad wine just yet.

With that said, I do think people would do well to manage their expectations a bit. The wines you are buying are most likely from smaller wineries that you have never heard of. There is a reason this costs $10 a bottle, drink it with that cost in mind, not whatever the suggest retail price is.

Yes, you might be right regarding bottle shock. I will wait some time before trying again. And yes, I was buying these mostly as cellar defenders.
After Coravin’d last week, pulled the cork today. Same as last week oak spice dominated at first. Gave it some time in the glass the white flower and nectarine surfaced. I did not get much banana but did agree to many in Cameron’s release note. Poured from wine refrig @55 and let it slowly rise to room temp.

In for a case of the Spring Mountain # 25. Togni is my favorite Napa cab blend by a country mile, so I hope some of the magic rubs off!
I had a few sips of the '79 Spring Mountain last year at an offline. If this is anything close you will be very happy for years to come.
Are you joking?
No.
Cheers,
Paul

I'll go out on a limb here and suggest that lot 15 2018 Napa merlot could be a blend of Nickel & Nickel Merlot - 37% Oak Knoll (Bear Flat) + 60% Oakville (Harris) + 3% some cab from Atlas Peak. The Nickel&Nickel single vineyard Merlot's both sell for $60+ from the winery. The resulting ABV checks out, as well as the 50% new french oak. Don't see atlas peak cab in their portfolio, but it was not clear from Cam's description that was even from the same estate... Wine style description is also consistent with N&N. Thoughts?

I just bought #15. I passed originally (as well as on #4) cause not a big Merlot guy but if I'm going to buy 1000 bottles of de Negoce to cellar off site might as well have 12 Merlot. Description is good. Thanks.
