TN: 2004 Karl Lawrence Beckstoffer “Dr Crane” Cabernet

Definitely had high hopes for this one, so when I popped the cork last night, to say I was confused would be an understatement. Expecting an explosive Cab nose, I was greeted with - well, not much! Some bubblegum(?!) and not a lot more! So I decided to replace it with the ’01 Neal, and let it sit for a day to slow-O - very glad I did! Tonight is much more of what expected, classic KL, with a nose that could never be mistaken for anything other than a Cab. Dark plum, cassis, pencil lead, and spice. Good grip and acidity, with fine, soft tannins, and a lingering finish. Really nice, but no rush if you have ‘em, and loong decant if you wanna open one soon!

Happy to hear it turned out well (with a little patience). It would have bummed me out as well to pop this beauty and not get to enjoy the rich nose we’ve come to expect from the original Karl Lawrence’s.

Thanks for the note. My aged (15+ years) Karl Lawrences have all been drinking wonderfully of late.

Cheers!
