Giacosa Santa Stefano Barbaresco 2000

Discovered a local butcher who delivers, and he came up with an incredible dry aged steak.

But the wine, the wine…

This was the best wine I have had this year. A white label from a hot vintage. Even in Giacosa’s hands, how good could it be? Well I have given away the ending. It was magnificent, and I would never have guessed it to be a 2000. The nose is a delight; bright red fruit full of strawberries and red currants, cloves, mint, and rose petals. On the palate the same, layered soft and streamlined. Perfect harmony, and a crazy long finish. 99

And here I was feeling content with my '16 Vietti Perbacco Nebbiolo.

Sigh.

Remarkable coincidence.

Nice! Beautiful steak too.
