2013 E. Guigal St. Joseph Vignes de L'Hospice

Popped this one last night with grilled pork tenderloin and sauteed mushrooms and tomatoes. One hour decant. I have a few of these, from different years, but this is the first one I’ve opened.

YOWZA this is a big wine. But I am impressed how integrated it is at just the age of 7. Seamless. Very silky, very long. Very New World in profile – and I don’t mean that disparagingly. But if you’re looking for bacon and green olives, I’m afraid you’ve come to the wrong place. For me this has (nearly?) the richness of a La La but without the Northern Rhone address.

Really delicious, if you like your syrah on the hedonistic rather than savory side. (Honestly I tend toward the latter.) If my eyes were closed I might have guessed Alban. 93
