TN: 2002 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays

  • 2002 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru (3/26/2020)
From 375ml, this could have gone much longer, but it was open and showing a good balance of fruit and developed elements. Black cherry, turned earth, menthol, dried herbs, and a subtle hint of licorice were backed up by solid tannins. The fruit carried through the finish, and remained balanced. From full bottle I would definitely wait longer.

David,

I actually have some of this so appreciate the note. I consumed a bunch of 375 ml bottles and now am on 750’s. Agree that this vintage is accessible but more glories will abound for those who wait.

Cheers,
Doug

Lambrays is a bit of an Avis Burgundy… has to try harder amid other darlings.

For the record, I’m a fan. Good historical QPR.

Thanks for the excellent note David. I’m sitting on a few of these, and while I am tempted, I will heed your advice and hold off for a few more years. I admit, I am envious that you have these in 375s.
