TNs: Two Berserker Quarantine wines from Walter Scott

Somewhat neutral on the nose; pretty open on the palate, tasty with good acidity & persistence. I prefer the Rock Salt, and I can see why this wine was “designed” for restaurant consumption, as this is very accessible.

  • 2018 Walter Scott Chardonnay The Rock Salt - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills (3/26/2020)
My first time trying this, which I think is some kind of a private label thing that they did for someone, although I may be mixing that up with the 12 East 12 bottling. Not too clear on the back story for this bottle.

Crisp nose with a citric scent that is reminiscent of Chablis, and a reductive matchstick note as well.

Light-bodied and brisk on the palate; good acidity for lift. Pretty tasty - without knowing what Walter Scott was trying to do here, I would say that this bottle is more coiled than the Cuvee Anne I tried last week, but more accessible than the Seven Springs. I will enjoy tracking this wine over the next 5 or so years.

yum. gotta try the rock salt. I wonder it was a barrel for Brian McClintic’s wine club? I know he does one each year.

Interesting reading their letter about the 2018s being purposefully lower yields. can’t wait to pop one.

2nd bottle of the Rock Salt. As good as the first. Tight and reductive upon PNP. Opens up after a few hours. Dirty and Delicous is a really good way. (This wine was not fined nor filtered and you can tell). Lemon, hint of line, and melon, great acidity, minerality and length.

Erica did confirm on the Zoom that this is the library stash of 2018 Cuvee Viticole. Nice Juice.

Happy Fathers Day to All!

I drank this today at the family BBQ > 2016 Walter Scott Chardonnay La Combe Verte Freaking awesome for $30. Nice color. Surprisingly nice nose. Pleasant taste of candied butterscotch. Smooth going down.

The 2015 La Combe Verte Chardonnay is an insane QPR, if you can still find it. Better than the 2016, IMHO.

I couldn’t refill the '16, and couldn’t find the '15 locally. I ended up buying 2 of the 2018’s. At $26, I thought it was a good deal.
