TN: 2000 Château Bellefont-Belcier

  • 2000 Château Bellefont-Belcier - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru (3/25/2020)
Typical basic bitch 2000 right bank. Merlot dominant red fruit, mild nose loam dominant forest floor and a hint soy reduction. Palate is relatively nice and smooth but definitely one dimensional with a short finish. Straddling the 50 yard line of primary and secondary characteristics. Maybe more time in the bottle will help but I’ll take a pass. I think the 2005 will be much better than the 2000. 89-90 (89 pts.)

I had several bottles of the 2005 in its youngish years, and it was really delicious then, with great purity and intensity of fruit. I’m not sure if it was going to transform into complex classical Bordeaux with enough age, but it sure was a tasty wine.
