Don Cornwell made me do it !

#1 Post by chetkern » March 25th, 2020, 6:49 am

I’ve been bullish on 09 white burgundy with their ultra ripe fruits that reminded me of young 89’s with hidden acid and extra stuffing that have stood the test of time. Question was always whether 09’s would succumb to pre-mox before they reached maturity. Many think middle aged 89’s had a roasted component and low acid. Over time, the fruits have remained powerful and the structure came to the forefront. I drink them with almost universal pleasure currently. Many of my insider friends in burgundy compare 09 whites to to the great 59’s. Ramonet 09’s have yet to unfold even at the premier Cru level. So only time will really tell.

This Jadot 09 Montrachet is huge mouthful of wine with unctuous fruit, glycerine and massive hidden structure all packaged and coming in at near to 15% alcohol. It’s a great drink, a kaleidoscopic wall of Chardonnay begging for 15 years to full maturity. We drank half the bottle last evening, balance tonight.

Sometimes you just have to say what the f*ck!

I’m currently in New York City.

If I remember correctly, at Don's tastings for the 09 and 10 vintages, I preferred the 09. At dinner with Pierre-Yves Colin recently his 09 Batard was outstanding.
