1998 Coche-Dury Monthelie Cote de Beaune

I cannot say I was surprised by how good this wine was. We had the privilege to visit the domaine a couple of years ago that included tasting from both barrel and bottle the reds in addition to the whites. I was super impressed then and even more so after drinking this bottle. What I noted back then and now, is the boatloads of crunchy red fruits on the palate. The nose was densely floral. So fresh and lively. A ‘lowly’ CdB that was a pure joy to drink.

Coche-Dury Bourgogne red 2017 : 16,5/20 (april 2020)
I was lucky enough to (also) buy a few reds at the domain this year (I also usually like Coche-Dury’s reds).
The wine is lovely, fruity, flowery, spicy, with a hint of wood. Joyful with specially good balance, depth and length for a “mere” red Burgundy.

Note : the Monthélie red 2017 must wait another 5 years, I think. It is still closed and oaky.
