TN: 1993 Faiveley Corton-Charlemagne

  • 1993 Faiveley Corton-Charlemagne - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (3/20/2020)
A deep golden colour but drinking very well. Complex aromatics of smoke, tropical fruits, white mushroom and vanilla. It is full, rich, layered and powerful in the mouth. There’s tinned peach fruit sweetness and loads of spice. Acidity is relatively gentle but there is mineral freshness to the long finish.

That sounds like a tasty treat. The 93 seems like a low to medium acidity vintage.

Thanks for the note. Curious about 93 whites as I have a 93 Leflaive Chev with decent color.

Fred, it’s superb. Tasted 6-8 times over past 3 years with similar results (bought on release, FYI).

Cheers,

Howard

the vintage was searingly acidic early on. It has mellowed so much.

Fred, I concur that the 93 leflaive chevalier should be excellent. I found a couple in a Swiss shop in the late oughties that were just lovely. Drink soon and post:)!

Remember the 93 Niellon chevy allen opened for us at Spago? Terrific.

Provenance matters, especially in white burgundy. I have had great bottles of the 93 Niellon Batard and Chevalier.

Will do. This is one to share so as soon as this quarantine is over…

Thank you and Howard for the advice!
