TN: 2015 Montes Alpha M

  • 2015 Montes Alpha M - Chile, Rapel Valley, Colchagua Valley (3/19/2020)
This has been open 24+ hours as I’m typing this note. The wine was all smoke, eucalyptus, and plum yesterday…it took all the remaining time to show anything else on the nose or palate. Now, it’s a deep ruby in the glass, with scents of smoke, eucalyptus, tobacco, leather, and graphite. The palate is structured, robust, and full as notes of dark chocolate, coffee, plum, and blackberry. This wine has a medium depth & complexity, and is lacking in what I’d look for or expect from a wine at this price-point. I am sure that this can improve with time, but I would not recommend buying this for anything over $40. There are far better wines from Bordeaux that cost less than this. The wine is full bodied, medium acidity, medium fruit, and has a short finish. Very Good to Excellent.

Kirk I agree about the price of this wine. This is not worth the retail. I picked up a 2011 and probably overpaid at $50 recently. Many years ago picked up some 2001 for $25 a bottle which was a very good QPR.
