I mostly pay half-attention to the bottle photos on cellartracker, but occasionally I’m alert enough to notice when someone has posted the wrong bottle, or an image too small to see. Is the bottle at an angle? Does the shadow of the camera obscure the label? Other times it’s not bad, it’s that the backgrounds are interesting - was the bottle pulled out of a mailer impatiently and photographed in an office? Is it on a kitchen counter? Held on its side in someone’s palm? Is it shot like retail stock or a boudoir shot or like a trophy? Sometimes it’s easy to guess if the photo was taken at the beginning of the evening or, if they look kinda soft focus and sentimental, waaaaay at the end. (Sometimes the shot is gorgeous like a prom photo - see the attached Pontet Canet.)
Every once in a while I see something that delights me. Like this: a bottle next to its natural companions, a lighter and a baggie that I just have to imagine someone cropped to keep the weed out.
What photos have I missed?
