California sparkling wine article

Thanks for the link. Nice mention of Blue Ox as well - a Berkeley sparkling wine specialist doing some good things. Not mentioned but along similar lines to Blue Ox is Carboniste, another newer venture. Just tasted several of their sparkling wines a few weeks ago and was impressed.

I worked at Larkmead with Dan Person so I got a close up look at the Carboniste wines. They are awesome. I’ve been crushing the Pet Nat especially. Very dry and pairs with everything. The sparkling rosé is also crushable and if you like something slightly sweeter, the Albariño is light bodied but with enough acidity to have balance. Can’t go wrong with any of the three.

My only ‘problem’ with the article is its exclusion of so many other producers who have ventured into this space - and are doing some really good things. A small label to look out for in my area is LouBud wines made by Laura Roach, part of the winemaking team at Sanford. And there are plenty of others down here as well to search out, too . . .

Well, it’s obviously not meant to be an inclusive article, more of an intro to newer California sparkling wine specialists and focusing mainly on a few of the better-known ones. I agree that there are a number of others not mentioned in the article that are worthy of note (such at Carboniste), from many parts of the state. Sounds like I’ll have to check out LouBud next time I’m in Santa Barbara County - thanks for the tip, Larry.

I was very excited to try Blue Ox wine Co but upon checking out it looks like they are unable to ship to PA. Real bummer.
