TN: 1978 Coron Père et Fils Charmes-Chambertin

Kept bottle in upright position for over one week to ensure that fine sediments are settled to the bottom. Carefully extracted cork which upon retrieval happily crumbled up in hundred pieces (close call).

Rather then decanting I poured a good portion into a wide glass and explored the development for the next several hours. Rich and deep tawny, almost opaque. The wine opened with an intense note of ghara ghoroot (Iranian dried black whey). On the palate some soya notes intertwined with raspberry and some VA in the background which disappeared after the first hour and replaced by notes of mushrooms. It held up nicely for three hours until nothing was left of it. Very pleasing and interesting experience. (91 pts.)
