TN: 1978 Dott. Giacomo Damilano Barolo

The cork was brittle and broke apart during extraction so I decanted the bottle straight away.
Lovely nose of dried cherry and peat, the wine opened up after 2 hours in the decanter and showed the elegance of 78 with a medium palate weight that belied the intensity of the fruit which has aged down to a melange of unami with a hint of tar.
I double decanted a 3rd of a bottle and left it overnight to see if the wine required more air to get it to a higher level, but it seemed to shut down overnight and was far less attractive to drink
