Got Flannery, CC visa fraudlently charged couple days later. Facts of modern life. This is getting routine for me, lots of issues going through airports and now I carry one of those radar wallets...

As an aside, this is why I have a dedicated card I use STRICTLY for recurring charges. Since I switched to that system, I have never had to replace that card due to compromise (while I've had numerous compromises of my other cards over the years).
That's a great idea! I'm sooooo sick of having to change my card info on all my accounts at least once a year, sometimes much more frequently.

Ordered from Flannery on Monday.

Chase Sapphire Preferred fraud on Wednesday.

It was a bit unusual. Not a fraudulent charge. Somehow the "hacker" had managed to find my Mother's maiden name and was trying to transfer all of the credit card points. The transfer was blocked by Chase. Card replaced and security codes/screenings updated.

FWIW, I did NOT buy Flannery, did make a couple other Visa purchases on BD, and no issues.

I would advise anyone who ordered from Flannery and saw no fraud issue to cancel their card proactively. No reason to believe your information was not stolen.

Also Chase didn't actually catch this as fraud, and neither did Ticketmaster. I had to call both companies. I would very closely monitor your statements if you haven't been hit yet...

All of my credit cards will send me an email alert for any purchase. It means I know almost from the moment if someone is trying to place a fraudulent charge. I don’t worry about missing it on my statement.

You can set text alerts too. It’s all from your online account settings.

This is how I found out about the most recent fraud on my account. Got a notification that I'd placed an order for Chipotle in Dallas, despite me being in London.

I generally abhor notifications of any kind as everyone and their brother wants to notify me of something. But because I keep my notifications to a minimum, I notice when I get card activity - either on my debit or credit card.

Ordered Flannery on BD, got a fraud notice on my Amex about an attempted purchase at a pizza place in Iowa (I am in NY). Card was cancelled and replaced.

Went ahead and asked AmEx to cancel and re-issue a new card - took all of three minutes. No need to wait until something happens, not just the fraud but potential loss of points. They were happy to do it.

Ordered Flannery on Berserker Day preview day. No CC issues, thankfully. Brian's timely, proactive email regarding the issue was an appreciated, first class gesture.

Sorry. I buy from a local farm, 3 miles from my house. Not as tender as Flannery, but flavor is just as good.

Spoke too soon this morn.
1300 dollar charge showed up midday.
Chase cancelled card and removed charge but I had to call; they didn’t catch it.

I feel terrible for Bryan, he had zero responsibility or fault here and yet this sort of thing can't help but be bad news for his business.

I will say, I called him on a different matter recently, and the customer service, responsiveness and communication were A+. I'll definitely keep supporting his business.

+1 bolded for vehemence.

I also got hit (RyanAir for me). I check my charges daily and so every time this has happened I catch it or I receive a fraud alert. Costco Citi immediately refunded the charge, cancelled the account and issued a new card that I received it the next day. It was a minor inconvenience completely overshadowed by the Flannery hangers I cooked Friday.
ITB-ish.

I have had several cards scammed, most of the problems were gas purchases at stations on the road. One was at a restaurant where they take the card away to process. Solution for the gas station issue was to get a new card with the tap to pay feature, this seems to avoid the scimmers at the pump.

Why all gas stations don't implement tap to pay is beyond me . . .

I have found that recurring charges usually go through even on cards that have been voided for fraud - sometimes I get a notice. But sometimes I just see on my statement an old card number that was cancelled listed on the bill (CapOne, which gives separate cards for each card holder on account).

I'm glad to see how many CC companies recognized fraud and acted to protect the card holder. Unfortunately, the businesses that accepted the fraudulent charge may be out the product/money. The ticket companies can recoup all but the fees for the charge and the charge back. Worse, it's considered a petty crime, usually with no investigation because of jurisdiction issues and if a person is caught, little or no prosecution. I get an obviously fraudulent order, I have to track down the victim and notify them because the bank will NOT call the card holder to confirm the order by policy. All the best to Bryan.
I'm only modestly sympathetic to companies, many of which have done a cost-benefit on more careful scrutiny and opted to run the risk. Companies like Amazon, Best Buy, etc. have to know that they're targets for fraudulent card use, and if they opt not to verify carefully that's on them.

My last Flannery purchase was on BD, but the same thing happened with points from my CSR a week later, on Sunday 2 Feb. I found out about it when I got an email from Chase saying $$$ would be deposited in some account. I immediately called and the transfer was blocked.

This seems like more than a simple breach at a card processor given some of the information the fraudster had in order to make the transfer.

In Verizon's 2018 Data Breach report, it noted that 58% of all US based victims were small businesses... and 60% of those that suffered a breach had to shut down permanently within six months. I'm not much of a beef eater but I hope Flannery makes it out the other side.

Thanks for that info Scott. The hacker was somehow taking time to search for mother's maiden names based on card names. And then actively calling Chase for the points transfer. No way for them to do it on-line without password info.

Chase was trying to tell me it could be a major identity theft... but that doesn't seem to be the case. It won't happen again like that..but I'm fully confident that the new Chase card will be hacked again within the next year or two.

I do not know enough about the security measures put into place by Bryan to categorically make a statement that he has " zero responsibility or fault here". You would be amazed at the number of companies that do not take security seriously. That being said, I have faith in Bryan and his organization. I also admire how Bryan got out in front of this and informed his customers of the problem. I plan to keep buying from him with enthusiasm.

I will repeat what I have said numerous times, there are many things consumers can do to lower their risk of a breach.

Great idea! Of course, that's as long as none of the companies where I have recurring charges get hacked... But I still may do that, as it will save me a bunch of work and even if one of them does get hacked, it would happen a lot less often.

Worth repeating:
Keep in mind You should never use “real” information when it applies to security authentication. For example I don’t use my mothers real maiden name I have a fake maiden name I use. I don’t use my real place of birth, first school, etc I use something different.

Social media is a goldmine for information like this.

My card was also compromised ($400+ Airbnb charge) and replaced. My bank caught it and refused the charges luckily. Minor inconvenience and certainly will not stop me from ordering from them again, sadly these things happen.

Same happened to me. Fraud happened on Saturday though. I got a confirmation email that my UR points were liquidated into a BofA account. Called them and got it reverted and they used phone order + mother's maiden name. Had to update my security code (assume default was mother's maiden name). I assume they probably joined data from multiple other breaches elsewhere to assemble all the info.

I'm amazed CC companies don't insist on 2-factor authentication much more for purchases where a physical card isn't present. Sending a code to my phone is almost trivial these days, and would stop 99% of fraud.

Still clean, and Bryan reached out by text to assure me which CC I need to keep monitoring.

I told him if he’d just keep selling us Rudd steaks once in awhile all will be kosher.

My Sapphire card got hit for a couple of cents in CA. I’m in Florida. Chase caught it but it was a real pain as I was leaving for a trip but managed to get the replacement card just as I was leaving. Sigh.

My card was not breached but even if it was I would still be a loyal customer. They provide an excellent product and service.
Cheers,

Meat is great. Didn't have any fraud issues (I cancelled my card anyways) and will now deal with resetting all of my insta-pays (phone, cable, power, etc.) and drown my sorrows in this giant porterhouse that I bought :D

Update: My brother got hit on his reward points - so check yours. Chase fraud department # is 1-888-745-0091
