TN: 2001 Château Pape Clément (France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan)

  • 2001 Château Pape Clément - France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan (2/7/2020)
Delicious! At a great place right now. Everything you could ask for in a Grave with a little age. Enough fruit, smokey terroir and a hint of funk. Well balanced. Tannins and oak well integrated. Maybe a little light and dusty. Regardless, went down a little to easy. No need to wait on these but will continue to improve for a few years and drink well for another 7-10. 93 + (93 pts.)

I’m not an expert in Bordeaux by any means, but …

I seem to enjoy “leaner” 1999 and 2001s than more hyped and more exuberant 2000s.

If you like the 2001, make sure you have some 2010 stashed away. Even more elegant and classic graves, it will be a beautiful Bordeaux when ready

Sounds like a great one. We did a P-C vertical some years ago and it was amazing to think that they’ve been making wine at that site for a half a millenia.
