2018 Willi Schaefer Graacher Domprobst Riesling Spätlese #5 - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (1/22/2020)
Wow this is good! Some sponti on the nose at first, giving way to ripe grapefruit, Mandarin orange, white peach, vanilla cream, and a touch of honey. There is some appreciable tension and excellent concentration of flavors on the palate. Bright acidity balances the auslese-like sweetness nicely. Not much in the way of herbal or floral notes at this time, just some subtle minerality. This spatlese definitely demands time, and I’m sure it will be glorious once mature. (94 pts.)
