1967 Bertalo: Barbaresco Riserva Specialè (Piedmont, Italy)

This was one of the bottles I opened from my cellar for a friend for dinner. It was my last bottle of this wine that I had bought years ago from a British source. I had raised the specially shaped bottle, which was made of thick glass and looked like it was blown by hand, for a week to allow the tannins to settle. I carefully opened the original bottle, cork and wax did an excellent job. An intense strawberry red color, with a light red border. No hint of brown. The nose started like dried flowers like violets, then moved to a nice Cuban cigar, red fruits and other shades. The sensation in the mouth remained fresh and energetic during the 3 hours in which we drank it. The tannins were ultra fine and completely resolved, the crunchy red fruits went well with extremely tasty dishes. An extraordinarily good wine in a historical bottle.

John, that sounds like a fantastic bottle!

This sounds just like the bottle I opened last week! I posted a TN and photo!

I admire only posting about extraordinary wines with special tannins. Kind of like Brahms… Perfectionism with selectivity . Glad it was so special, John.
