I’ve had both experiences though for the most recent issue I was told to return the wrong bottle before they shipped the new bottle

Maybe State? I have no clue. For data point, I live about 15 mi. away from warehouse.

Some people have obviously had bad experiences, but I've been very happy with WDC as a long-time customer (placed at least 60+ orders last year). They make mistakes sometimes, but their fixes always leave me happy. I really don't think they're looking at credit card chargebacks vs gift cards as a way to gain leverage over customers.

If you get very attached to one specific bottle and they mess it up I can see why you'd be frustrated. I just view WDC at a place with good deals and decent selection. If they mess one order up they'll make it up to me and another bottle I'm excited about will come along soon enough.

I don't expect this gravy train to last forever. They seem to clearly be trying to increase sales growth % in preparation for an IPO (look at their investor relations site). I'm happy to benefit from the deals while they're around.

Yes, I've gotten many free bottles, and the one time they asked me to do a return they sent the same wrong bottles again, and the second time they told me to keep them. Most of my stuff ships from NY.

Sounds pretty par for the course for the NY warehouse. It’s a total clownshow over there.

I’ve gotten bottles I never ordered. Partial orders with the rest missing. But, credit where credit is due, they always go above and beyond to make it right.

If anyone knows of a similar non-Amex offer at Morrell let me know, they have something on sale that I want but it's not expensive so shipping is prohibitive otherwise.

You can use the Raise 10% off coupon mentioned upthread, coupled with the regular Raise discounts to buy Raise giftcards for like 15% off. Coupled with codes posted here, and retailmenot 20% cashback to end up over 50%-off at wine.com.

This coupon stacking trick really turns my approach to buying upside-down. Normally, I know what I want to buy and go looking for it at a good price. When the coupons line up, I find myself searching for something to buy with them. Not sure I like it, in the grand scheme of my own buying, though I can see how it works for others. Fortunately, there's rarely anything I want, even at a discount.

I'm with you Sarah. I found a couple things over the last 18 months where the coupon made sense, but in general I'm not finding the wines I'm searching for- or the price isn't discounted enough to overcome the hassle of wine.com

Quick question on others experience with WDC, RMN and delayed shipping.
If I put in an order today, activate 20% but schedule shipping for late May, will that 20% still be honored?

It should be. It will not, however, "trigger" the RMN until it is shipped. But the 45 days for payment will run from today. In other words, you'll get the email confirming that the rebate is confirmed and "pending" 2 days or so after the order ships, not before. But even if that is 40 days from today, you'll still get the money 45 days from today.

I think the issue is mostly that wine.com only really has competitive prices upon the initial release of a wine. Anything that is in inventory after the initial release tends to be priced at least 20% above what it should be, so the discounts don't really do too much.

But if you can time it right with the coupons, the 20% cash back from RMN, and the release of a new wine, you can get some crazy deals.

That doesn't always hold true. In NY I've gotten some very nice prices on back vintages (probably as a result of a distributor closeout) and I've seen some really crappy prices on new stuff even once you add in a coupon. I think a lot depends on which waters you're fishing in and which warehouse is shipping to you.

Does anyone know if the RMN 20% will be applied for 2018 Bordeaux Futures that'll be shipped in Nov? Thinking of purchasing Chateau Leoville Poyferre. With the $50 coupon off $150 + RMN, this will be a great deal, assuming 20% RMN will be applied. BTW, it appears the coupon is valid for Futures, as long as it ends in .99; just tried it w/out submitting the order.

It's dicey, for sure. It should pay out but you might need to manually follow up and file a missing cash back claim if they don't do it automatically, but I imagine that it will go through eventually. Still, if you are risk averse I might avoid trying it.

It will not automatically hit your RMN account. You will have to manually submit a "case" after the 45 days runs. But where I've done so on futures orders, they've always paid the cash back rebate.

I have done this for 2019 futures and got paid. As Dave said you'll have to email a copy of the invoice to customercare@support.retailmenot.com , as the cash back will not work automatically. But they paid mine quickly without any issues (picked up 375s of malartic lagraviere for $16 each after cash back.)

When someone posted a 50 off 300 wine dot com code, you said "wait for a better code." You frequently tell people who post codes that they are not good enough. The wine dot com code might be useful for someone who used up all other codes all ready, yet you criticized it and as a percentage (16.7%) it is etter than the WineAccess code, though things even out with wine dot com's prices. [cheers.gif]
I wasnt criticizing. I was giving an advice since new wdc codes come often and so does 20% cashback. Boom next day 20% back and soon there will be another good wdc code.
You mentioned wait until tomorrow to use previously loaded code on an account. My point was if someone doesnt have codes left this might be useful. Not sure why you have to see it as a negative response. Did I frequently tell people their codes were not good enough? I wasnt aware.

I dont have the actual data but it seems to me at least once a month and usually runs for few days.

Fair enough, I think I misunderstood your point about the code. And I think there is someone who does criticize smaller codes on this board, whereas I think that any code is helpful because people may have run out. But that person isn't you. I have deleted my earlier post and I apologize.

Note that unlike the code above, this one seems to require a 100 purchase price, not just 100 nominal value. Still a better deal at the moment even if you have to kick up your purchase to get it over 100.

If you don't have already have a Raise account, more on how the Raise deal works to save you an extra 6% (or more right now as just discussed), with a referral code for an additional savings opportunity, in post 2608 of this thread:

viewtopic.php?p=3201087#p3201087
Another Raise code today - tax4. 4% off your order of "discount" cards (not good on "cash back" cards), max total discount $20. One-time use per household. That is less than the 6% Raise sells wdc "cash back" cards for, but for the moment Raise still has wdc "discount" cards selling for 4% off, so with that discount and this code, you can get up to $500 in wdc cards for 92 cents on the dollar, before 1% Rakuten cash back on your Raise purchase and any cash back on your credit card.

Do you find better deals than that on Raise at all? Not in a rush to buy any cards, but could if that's about the best it gets...

I don't recall ever seeing Raise selling wdc "discount" gift cards cheaper than now. Most of the time, the "discount" cards are barely discounted at all (less than half a percent) and the 6% "cash back" cards are the way to go. Of course, who knows what they'll be next week or next month?

The other half of the deal is the coupon. I have seen cheaper coupons, like the 5 off 50 and the 10 off 100 posted here recently. Plus if you're a new customer, I think they have a 10% off your first purchase offer, maybe a referral code on top of that, etc. But putting the new customer stuff aside, I haven't see the cheaper coupons all that frequently, so who knows what the odds are of when the next one will come along and what price the "discount" cards will be at the time? For example, a 5% coupon code at a time when the "discount" codes are barely discounted isn't much help, as long as the "cash back" cards are still 6%.

Of course, the age-old causation theory may apply - if I buy now on this deal, a cheaper one will come along next week. If I don't, it won't. [snort.gif]

As a cautionary note, I bought one of the raise discount cards at 4.2% last week and it did not work. I've since sent Raise three messages about this and reported it on the order itself with no response at all. I'll give them a bit longer then pursue a chargeback. Have had good luck with them until now but CS appears to be nonexistent.

Interesting, thanks. I've never had one not work, but I've mostly bought the "cash back" cards as the "discount" cards have so rarely been the better deal. But so far every card I've bought in either category has worked flawlessly. Keep us posted! Raise guarantees the cards will work, but if they don't respond when you report an issue, that's troubling...

Re: Best deal/coupon for on-line wine shopping.

#3146 Post by Kevin Patrick »

Let me see if I understand the entire "Raise.com" proposition in this on-line, coupon-code, scavenger hunt hobby many of us have adopted over the last 12 months.

I will only use Wine.com (WDC) as the example and make up example %s based on reading prior posts (feel free to offer more reasonable %s based on your experience).

If I buy a gift card for Wine.com through Raise.com I will be given one of two options:

1) Buy a $200 gift card for $192 (a 4% discount to full value) or
2) Buy the same $200 gift card for $200 but receive a 6% credit towards my next gift card purchase (no actual cash back).

Based on whatever promo available at the moment these %s may increase (i.e today is 8% off discounted WDC cards).

In my example, the purchaser then uses the gift card to buy $150 worth of wine at WDC using an available coupon code (presumably $50 off $150) plus a 10-20% actual cash back from Rakuten/RetailMeNot. This leaves $90 in the gift card account.
Note: the user has WDC StewardShip for free shipping.

If my math is correct, ignoring the noise of a couple dollars either way on exact taxes plus using your credit card to "true up" any shortfall, the the deal breaks down this way:

The Raise.com user does the following:
1) $200 gift card purchase via Raise.com costs you $192
2) $160 (with tax) purchase at WDC (with StewardShip) is $110 after ($50 off $150) coupon code
3) $110 purchase during RMN 20% cash back gets $22 banked in your account ~45 days later
Net cost: $88 for $150 value from WDC

User is left with $90 gift card for WDC.

For simplicity sake the user repeats the exact same transaction (or does two $50 purchases based on available WDC codes):
1) Purchase $160 (with tax) at WDC with $50 coupon code = $110 purchase
2) RMN 20% cash back = $22 banked to your account ~45 days later
Net cost: $88 for $150 value from WDC but user pays another $20 to true up the amount owed

Net Cash out of pocket is:
$192 for Raise.com purchase
-$44 cash back from RMN
+$20 to true up final purchase
Net cost: $170

Value purchased: $300 in WDC product

As noted in prior posts, the initial purchase via Raise.com can also net a 1% cash back from Rakuten.

If you have burned through all our Amex Wine.com cash back offerings I can see some value of Raise.com when the promos all line-up but it seems to be a bit of work with the noise of lingering gift card credits laying around being a drawback.

After the 1st time I went through the whole process, it took me (literally) about 30 seconds the next time. I think I saved a total of $10. For me the $120/hr rate makes me happy and is worth it, especially since I have a hard cap on the wine I can buy.

I would also caution. I just bought 4 gift cards this morning and 2 of 4 did not work. I contacted raise and they have already processed a refund, but it was a pain in the neck. I'll probably stick to the 6% cash back cards next time. The 6% cash back cards are all purchased directly from wine.com by raise, so there is not the same risk of the code not working.

I had the same issue. If you use the chat help on raise they will fix the problem right away. Take a screen shot of the error message on wine.com and be ready to email it to them.

I tried the chat, no luck. Also, after I marked the card unusable I no longer have access to the code so I can't even get a screen shot. Should have thought of that before but didn't realize they'd hide the code. Now it just says "response pending," in the place where the code information normally is.
