TN: 1998 Le Bon Pasteur

A wine I bought for about $45 back in 2001 or so, very very pretty dark fruits, wood, and fully integrated tannins. Pretty great. Drink up.
A/A-.

Hard to go wrong with '98 Pomerol. I drank a 1998 Chateau La Croix de Casse Pomerol over Christmas that was also in a marvelous spot. Tannins resolved–beautiful pure fruit on the front end, long finish. Sourced at Chambers; I had never heard of this Chateaux before.

The 1990 is also great, and recently around for just $60 each.

BTW, finished my bottles of 1990 Bon Pasteur now long ago, but I still recall the tirades against Michel Rolland and his supposed mission to promulgate ripe (or overripe) and more importantly, “spoofed” wines. That may or may not have been true, but I can recall clearly that his 1990 Bon Pasteur was the real thing, classic Pomerol (even if not Petrus). Such fragrant spice, it was hard to avoid thinking of Ingres Odalisque or Manet’s Olympia when you drank this wine.

I thought 90, 95, 98 were all pretty awesome for this estate…but all finished now.

Nice to hear an update
