I have wanted to do this for a while, and last night got motivated to dig the older bottles out of the cellar. One of the things that surprised me in doing these bottles side-by-side was just how different each vintage was from the other. I would have difficulty picking a favorite here, although I am convinced that the 2014 has the most potential to still be drinking well in 2030 (assuming I am still around, of course, to verify my assumption). The 2015 just seemed a step behind each of the other vintages, but this was a lot of fun to compare the vintages on a mild Saturday afternoon in the Delaware Valley ;^)

2014 Goodfellow Family Cellars Chardonnay Richard’s Cuvee - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Ribbon Ridge (12/28/2019)
Five years after the vintage, and the “drink me” sign is now on. This still shows that reductive matchstick/petrol scent on the nose - I love it.
Expansive on the palate, good acidity, great persistence on a finish I am still tasting as I type this. I believe this is the first bottle I’ve tried where I wouldn’t add the caveat that this “is still young”, so maybe a sign that we are entering the maturity plateau, but this also strikes me as a wine with plenty of time in front of it.

2015 Goodfellow Family Cellars Chardonnay Richard’s Cuvee Whistling Ridge Vineyard - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Ribbon Ridge (12/28/2019)
This is a little “fatter” than the 2014, and doesn’t display that same reductive matchstick note on the nose. Maybe a touch less acidity than I would prefer as well. Not bad, but somewhat in the shadow of the previous wine. -
2016 Goodfellow Family Cellars Chardonnay Richard’s Cuvee Whistling Ridge Vineyard - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Ribbon Ridge (12/28/2019)
Very interesting how each vintage is so different from each other. I actually get a little tropical fruit on the nose here, but the palate is energetic, with lively acidity. I’ve liked this particular vintage since it was released, and this is another bottle that is drinking very well. -
2017 Goodfellow Family Cellars Chardonnay Richard’s Cuvee Whistling Ridge Vineyard - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Ribbon Ridge (12/28/2019)
More similar on the nose to the 2016, yet not quite the same. On the palate, this is lighter-bodied than each of the other wines. Very good today.
