2008 Continuity but really all the Continuity wines.
http://davenportcellars.orderport.net/p ... Continuity Amazing vineyards they sourced from for this wine.

At the cheap prices I got one of some of the other reds. Could not pull the trigger on the Carmenere however.

Is any region good for Carmenere? neener

I would give it a try in all seriousness. Washington State is growing non traditional grapes and having good success. I popped on a Malbec Reserve.

I was amazed that even though they ship UPS they were able to do a 3rd party shipper and get it to my FedEx Office. Can't beat that for $30 on a case.

I got a mixed 6 of the Continuity for $81 shipped to the east coast. Even if the wine is only fair that is a massive bargain. Especially considering the vineyards these wines were sourced from.

What's their Oak philosophy, and how does the Oak present itself in the final bottled product?

Picked up 6. Not much on the internet but the Malbec did win best in it’s class in a local competition (for whatever that’s worth).

I have been to their tasting room in Woodinville a few times. The staff there is great and they serve food which is nice since there aren't too many restaurants in the warehouse district. I like their 2008 Continuity best. It is a tight when first opened and needs a hour of air to open. Should go several more years no problem. The RHD, their 2013 Cab, and the Chardonnay are also very good. They source fruit from some of the better vineyards in the state.

I have my wife pick out a few Washington State wines and pour them into decanters so I can have a blind tasting. The Davenport wines hold up pretty nicely compared to others that cost twice the price. At 65% off they are screaming good deals. I picked up 2 cases on Saturday.

Thx for the head’s up. I don’t know these guys but I know the vineyards and that’s enough at this price point. Glad to hear this is on the owners’ terms.

I took Continuity from 2008 and 2012, grabbed half bottles of the 2009 RMH and the fume blanc and meritage blanc from the most recent vintage.

Hello,

I am an owner of Davenport Cellars along with my wife, and the winemaker. I noticed a few questions and figured I should respond.

Our philosophy on winemaking is to express the vine and vintage. What that means is our wines depict the nuances of the vintage (weather) and express varietal typicity. We have been making the R.H.D. and Continuity blends since 2007, our first vintage. We use a minimalist approach to winemaking. After pressing, we settle the wines in stainless for a week and then rack off of the gross lees into French oak barrels. We purchased about 66% new oak each year. The Cab was targeted with a higher percent of new oak 70-75%, and the Merlot about 50%. Oak was used to add some subtle complexity. Once in barrel the wine was left untouched for 18-28 months, except for monthly topping.

When we were getting close to bottling we would bring our tasting panel together to taste through the barrels. While our Cab may have come from a single vineyard, the 13+ barrels were all different due to fermenting with different yeasts and sourcing barrels from four to seven different coopers. After the panel tastes and ranks the barrels, I begin the process of building test blends. Our varietal wines were not necessarily produced every year because we wanted the wine to truly express the grape. If we couldn't do that using 100% of that grape, we didn't produce it. We could have added Merlot, or Cab, or a splash of Syrah at times to tweak the wine but... we just chose to not do it. Once the test blends are tasted and finalized, we blend the entire lot and bottle un-fined and unfiltered. The reds then see 10-14 months of bottle age before release (whites were aged 3-8 months depending on stainless or oak fermentation).

The website still shows retail pricing. If you load your cart you will see the discount at checkout.

We retired from our day jobs in 2013 (me) and 2017 (my wife). We are now at a point in our lives where we want more time for ourselves and family and have decided to exit the business. This sale runs through 5pm on December 29th... if you snooze, you'll lose. After that, and into 2020, any remaining wine will continue to be sold online, at local wine events, and to restaurants and wine shops.

Best regards,

Jeff

On a more serious note, thank you to Jeff for posting the above. I am glad to hear that yours is a happy story of a voluntary move out of the business. I am looking forward to trying your wines. I just hope I don't like them that much as it will make me even more sad that you are closing. :-)

Best of luck, and thank you for your dedication to producing something that sounds very special.

Thanks to my brother Brian Glas who confirmed how good this wine is! I got the shipment and pop and pour today. Cheers to all who took advantage of this wine as it is the QPR of the year!

2008 Davenport Cellars Continuity - USA, Washington, Columbia Valley (12/30/2019)
Day 1: Holly S... This just took over the top wine of 2019 for 3 Day Wine Review for wines under $30.00. $10.50 on their closeout special which concluded on December 28. Just picked this up from FedEx Office today and it is outstanding. No bottle shock which is a myth to begin with. 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 9% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot.
Classic Washington State. Leather, tobacco, blueberries, cherry and minerality. Drinking unbelievable. So balanced and very Bordeaux like. This would do well in a blind tasting. I am so happy my brother Brian confirmed how great this wine was as he gave it 92 points on two separate occasions. I only bought 4 and regret not getting a case. This wine should age another 3 to 5 years. 93 + points (93 pts.)

Good to hear. I picked up 6 different vintages of the Continuity and 3 bottles of the Mr. B. Incredible sale, even if they turn out to just be okay (and it sounds like they’ll be much more than that).

Had the first of my six pack--an orange muscat. Really delicious wine. Hugely floral, maybe a touch of sweetness, but perfect with spicy asian food and a real crowd-pleaser.

Holy smokes!

Case arrived today and I busted open the 2012 Continuity. What a fantastic little wine, with an almost perfect balance! Wonderful stuff. Don't think I've had a better bargain in the US ever! 92pts

Holye smokes. Again. The 2015 Carmenere Walla Walla. Leather, cherry, pepper, hint of smoke on the nose. On the mouth that repeats, with some coconut undertones (American oak?). It's super luscious and soft, but with integrated tannins. What a wonderful wine. Blown away by that QPR. This is a 93pts wine, for sure.

Working through a six pack. Tried the 2016 fume blanc. Interesting wine. Initial impression of sweetness but with terrific balancing acidity. Unusual for a dry sauv blanc.

Also had a 2009 RHD from a 375. Pretty far along the aging curve but a winner for fans of secondary characteristics.

[quoteHolye smokes. This is a 93pts wine, for sure.]
Sounds like a winner. Wish they would have extended the 65% sale.

[quoteCase arrived today and I busted open the 2012 Continuity. What a fantastic little wine, with an almost perfect balance! Wonderful stuff. Don't think I've had a better bargain in the US ever! 92pts]
Only one bottle purchased. Should have gotten more but over spent on children's gifts! [swearing.gif]
