Dinner at Olivia (Olivia, Keong Saik Road, Singapore): This was excellent after a couple of hours in a decanter. It had a lovely modern Bordeaux nose, with fragrant wafts of cassis, blueberries, violets and sweet tobacco spices, all against a bed of earthy loaminess. Very attractive. The palate was where I thought this really shone though - it showed lovely balance, great shape and wonderful poise, with velvet tannins and beautifully integrated acidity draped over a core of plush cassis and berry fruit. Ripe and powerful and succulent, yet very pure, elegant and transparent at the same time. A quiet intensity I thought. Lovely finish too, coating the backpalate with an effortless length and depth. Drinking beautifully at the end of its first decade, but with tons of life ahead of it yet. I would love to try this again in 5 and then 10 years time. (94 pts.)
